If you are a person that possesses a uterus, you most likely understand the obnoxious struggle of PMSing. The cramps, the bloating, the mood swings… I’m sure thinking about that time of the month just makes you want to cringe and cry. What if I told you I had a solution? EVEN BETTER… what if I told you that solution is C H O C O L A T E. Yes, you read that correctly, CHOCOLATES.

This week, I met up with one of the co-founders of Chica Chocolate, the delicious, chinese herb infused chocolate truffles that help sooth and improve your PMS symptoms. Elise, a physics major at CU Boulder, and her business partner Cassidy Lam, a senior at Colorado College, met in their seventh grade gym class; little did they know they would become business partners in college.

Cassidy’s father, Marco Lam is an experienced acupuncturist and Chinese Herbalist who began selling herbal infused chocolate to help people who experienced pms symptoms at his clinic Mandala Clinic in Boulder. Cassidy and Elise soon realized that this was a product that is not only enjoyable but could potentially help hundreds of people. With some help from Mr. Lam’s expertise and testing several prototypes, the genius idea of Chica Chocolate was born.

If you’re wondering what’s the catch.. THERE IS NONE. Amazing, right?

By eating just two chocolate truffles a day the week leading up to the start of your bleeding, your symptoms will magically be carried away into oblivion.  Actually, as stated by the co-founders, “the herbs nourish the liver and spleen, both organs essential to hormones levels in our bodies.” So not only are you getting a sweet treat to fulfill your body’s chocolate cravings, but you’re taking extra care of your body when it needs a little extra lovin’.

Here are a few things you MUST know about Chica Chocolate:

The herbs used are crushed into a powder form which is later mixed with chocolate and coconut milk and finally made into a truffle.

Fun Fact: these truffles are made in a professional chocolate kitchen by Elise and Cassidy!

Some of the chinese herbs included are: mint, ginger, licorice root, and bupleurum root!

They are completely safe to take if you are on birth control.
