Rating Fall Blizzards From Dairy Queen

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at CU Boulder chapter.

Two of my favorite things are ice cream and autumn. So, I was ecstatic to see fall-flavored Blizzards at Dairy Queen. The idea of a pie flavored Blizzard made me want to scream with joy, so obviously I took the liberty of buying all of the new fall Blizzards to see which one was the best.

  1. Sea Salt Toffee Fudge

This was an excellent dessert, especially because I grew up eating Heath bars. I shared this Blizzard with my roommate because it melted quickly, but it was absolutely scrumptious. I wish there were more chunks, but this was a really satisfying ice cream treat. This delicious sweet-salty-crunchy Blizzard is worthy of a 9.5/10.

  1. Pumpkin Pie

I am a proud pumpkin spice fan and was very excited to try this remixed version of one of my favorite desserts. There were little crust pieces in the ice cream, which were amazing, but I wish there were more. The pumpkin pie flavor was subtle but sweet, and the ice cream consistency was super creamy. I appreciated the real pumpkin pie bits, but I think I prefer a classic chocolate Blizzard, so I give it an 8.5/10.

  1. Choco Dipped Strawberry

This was the flavor I was least excited to try but was blown away once I tried it. The ice cream was fluffy and almost mousse-like, so it was light and refreshing. For strawberry fans who want a Blizzard which doesn’t leave you sugared up and bouncing off the walls, this is a great one to try. I wish there were more chunks of chocolate or strawberries and this flavor seemed more summery than fall-like. Overall this was a surprisingly good treat, so I’m rating it a 7/10.

  1. Pecan Pie

My favorite pie is pecan pie, so I was super excited to try this Blizzard. Similar to the Pumpkin Pie Blizzard, this ice cream was filled with pieces of real pie. The crust part was super sweet and soft, a great contrast to the crunchy cinnamon pecan pieces. My only complaint is the ice cream itself was too vanilla flavored, and I would’ve liked a more bold flavor. Overall I rate this Blizzard an 8.5/10.

  1. Reese’s Pieces Cookie Dough

If you are a fan of Reese’s, peanut butter, or have a major sweet tooth, this is the Blizzard to try. I almost cried when I took my first glorious bite of this crunchy peanut-buttery goodness. It tasted like Reese’s Puffs with creamy milk, and best of all, the cookie dough bits were made of actual Reese’s bits. This was one of the best Blizzards I have ever had, so I have to give it a 10/10.

  1. Oreo Mocha Fudge

If you’re a coffee-lover, I definitely recommend this blizzard. With a slight Oreo aftertaste and little chunks of chocolate, this sent my taste buds on a roller coaster. The only negative was the consistency of the ice cream because it melted super fast. Overall, I award this mature Oreo flavored Blizzard an 8.5/10.

Go try some autumnal tasting Blizzards at your local DQ!
