Types of Guys You See on Dating Apps

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at CU Boulder chapter.

In the modern dating scene, dating apps like Tinder and Bumble are the most common ways to meet people.  Over the course of a year, here are some of the most common pictures and bios I see on these apps. If you have your preferences set to men, I’m sure you’ve seen these before.

  1. Fish, No Chips

Posing up with a fish is just … not it. Please get rid of these immediately and I’m sure you will get more matches.

  1. The “Series”

These are the pictures that are obviously taken in the span of 5 minutes, same outfit, same location, just a slightly different pose. With these pictures, you know he asked his friends to take them and they all looked at it later and thought it was the best thing they ever thought of.

  1. The Gang

How are we supposed to know which one is you? Also, seventimes out of ten your friends are more attractive than you, so it’s not really helping your case.

  1. Siblings or Dating?

If I’m on a dating app, I don’t want to also play a game of siblings or dating. Don’t post pictures with other girls – and no, it doesn’t matter if she’s your best friend or cousin or sister.

  1. Memes

I’ll admit, I like a good meme occasionally on a dating app, but not when you have one picture of yourself and 10 really bad memes. All that tells me is that I have no idea what you look like, AND, you aren’t funny.

  1. Gymshark Ambassador

I can appreciate a nice gym picture or too, but when it’s every single picture of you flexing so hard that I’m worried a vein will pop, maybe you should reevaluate your profile.

  1. Your Eyes Only

Decked out in head to toe snowgear is great when you’re skiing or snowboarding, however, not so great for your dating profile. Eyes are the window to the soul, but not through Tinder.

  1. The Child

To use a dating app, you have to be over the age of 18, and this rule applies to your pictures too. I don’t want to see you as a child, no matter how cute you were, and I don’t want to see you holding a child followed by …

  1. “Not my kid”

If enough people have asked you if that’s your child that you need to dedicate a line in your bio to tell everyone that you know how to use protection, maybe get rid of the picture.

  1. “6’1, since that matters”

Height didn’t matter until you said it! There’s no issue with putting your height in your bio, it’s the “since that matters” that makes me think that you’re not actually 6 foot.

Some other bios that I see so often:

  • “I have a boat”
  • “Will outsmoke you”
  • “Never on here, just add my snap”
  • “Fuck around and find out”
  • “Save a horse, ride a cowboy”
  • “I’m not like other guys. I’m worse”
  • “Looking for a gym buddy”

Tinder: probably not where you meet the love of your life, but a fun insight to how men perceive themselves.
