Something that I’ve dreamed of having since I downloaded Tumblr in 2012 is a record player. Back in middle school, it seemed like an aesthetic thing rather than something I would’ve gotten much use out of, but I can’t stop thinking about having one lately (for listening purposes, of course!).
I grew up with parents who were always playing music around the house, on instruments and through stereos, cassette tapes and record players, so music was always a huge part of my life. It introduced me to so many genres and artists that have been influential to me.
I love hearing the stories and feelings that artists put into their music. As I get older, I feel like I’m gaining a new appreciation for how much artists put into their work, and am experiencing it again and again with every listen. There is something so unique about the qualities of a record that makes you feel some type of way.
Since I am so close to graduating college, getting my own apartment, and making it the way I want to, I’ve been thinking about the record collection I want to build. I have created this list that includes everything from synth-y rock, indie, hip hop and quite a few genres in between.
These albums are some that tell such incredible stories and have unique and innovative instrumentals to them that I could listen to for the rest of my life. I hope this list inspires you to listen to some new music or gives you ideas for your very own record collection!
