We can’t all be ice queens who sing dramatic power ballads and make snowmen through magical powers.
If you’re more like me (I wouldn’t last in eternal-winter-Narnia) and less like Elsa, here are 10 tips to stay warm.
-
Pretend you’re on a beach. (I had one friend who swore this worked. Who knows, mind over matter!)
-
Layers on layers on layers. I’m talking hat, gloves, a sweater, a t-shirt, another sweater.
-
Dress for warmth, not fashion. You can’t do a catwalk if you’ve got frostbite.
-
Be that person who carries hot beverages everywhere. Warm tea, coffee, cider. Drinking a hot beverage on a cold day warms you up from the inside.
-
Get a jacket with good insulation! (See number 3.) Every college has a different version of winter, so ask a friend from your college campus just how cold it gets and what jacket you should bring.
-
If you can get one, get a space heater for your dorm.
-
Bake cookies! No, really! Using your oven warms up your entire house. ;) And your heart.
-
Layer your blankets so the thick ones are at the bottom! Thin blankets don’t insulate your body heat as well, but they can block a draft if put at the top!
-
Frostbite often goes for toes and fingers and nose. Get good, wool socks, thick gloves, and a scarf that covers half your face.
-
And finally, consume more calories! Think of a bear in hibernation. If you eat more food and drink adequate water, then your body will work to burn those calories. Keeping you satisfied AND toasty!
Those are your tips to staying warm! Jack Frost might be nice, but not this winter, buddy!
