Poetry submission by Clover Danos ‘23

The window was open,

Once again.

As always, my mind gone

Astray.

After losing wings and flying world,

To live in the gruesome, macabre

World below,

And to be a part of the gruesome

As well.

My mind sears to hear merriment,

But mourn is music to my ears.

Screams are even better, if

I play upon your fears.

Don’t get me wrong, I love you

True and full,

But not enough to shield you

From this gruesome, macabre world.

And so the window opens,

You always loved the wind,

Curtains flowing in your

Hair, such a sweet sight.

I really do love you,

Down to the knife at your

Back.

Hug you and kiss you,

To distract you from this

Gorey reality which haunts me.

My love, I miss you.

And your window squeals as it slides open.

“Oh, you’ve come to join me?”

I’m delighted until I die,

Pressed against your pale lips.

Revenge is sweet when it is

Least suspected, my love.

Just be glad you can’t die again.
