6 Holiday-Themed Things to Do Near Davidson This Weekend

Are you drowning in papers? Exhausted from final exam preparation? You’re gonna need a break from studying this next weekend, and it’s the perfect time for some holiday fun! Here are some ideas.

1. Charlotte Christmas Village at Romare Bearden Park

For more info, click here. Cost: Free! Food and Drinks available for purchase. Open Tues-Sun at 11 a.m.

2. Holiday Lights at Charlotte Motor Speedway

This drive-through light display will brighten up your finals gloom! Also, they are showing Christmas movies on the giant Speedway TV every weekend!

  • Dec. 7 – 10 – “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation”
  • Dec. 14 – 17 – “Elf”

Cost: $25 per car Thursday and Sunday, $30 per car Friday and Saturday. Open Thurs-Sun.

3. Winter Wonderland Holiday Light Show

If the Motor Speedway’s light show doesn’t fit your budget, head to Phillips Place in South Park for a free light show! There will be a visit from Mr. & Mrs. Clause, Holiday stilt walkers, and free hot chocolate provided by Dean & Deluca. Cost: Free! December 7th and 14th, with two light shows each night at 6:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

4. Ice Skating

Glide around like Elsa and Ana in front of the NASCAR Hall of Fame! Price: $14 for ice skating plus skate rental. Open Wed-Sun.

5. Gingerbread Lane at the Ballantyne

Couldn’t get enough of the sugary gingerbread houses at OLAS, ACAA and Q&A’s gingerbread house competition on Saturday? Go see some made by the pros at the Ballantyne Hotel and Lodge. Price: Free! Open every day.

6. Theatre Performance: Mom’s Gift

Come see this spin on It’s A Wonderful Life at Armour Street Theatre right here in Davidson! For tickets and more info, click here. Price: $12 for students. Shows this week and next, Wed-Sun at various times.
