Name: Malia Dickson
Class: 2018
Hometown: Lancaster, Pennsylvania
Relationship Status: “Fun and available”
Major: Undeclared (maybe something through CIS related to Art & Cultural Studies)
Eating House: Rusk
Activities: Class President, Union Board, Club Crew Team, Club Lacrosse, Free Word
I sat down with Malia in the Union on a busy Monday evening, catching her for a half-hour dinner/interview sandwiched between her many meetings. As she ate her Davis Cafe pasta special and I munched on some Cinnamon Chex, we quickly ran through the necessary post-formal-weekend round-up and then delved right into these hard-hitting questions. Thankfully, Malia is one of the most easygoing and approachable people on this campus, which made our conversation go by in what felt like five minutes.
Siblings: Older brother, younger sister; she’s a “token middle child with oldest child tendencies.” This girl is a natural leader.
Pets: “I’m in love with my dogs, they’re my babies.” She has a Bichon and a Pomeranian, who she claims is “such an asshole sometimes.”
Favorite pastimes: Exercising, writing, talking to people, stargazing.
Favorite Davidson experience (so far): Bonding with her crew team and also self selection and formal.
Celebrity crush: “Absolutely Emma Watson. And this is really basic, but Ryan Gosling.”
Favorite Commons meal: Yogurt parfait
Spirit Animal: Lion (she’s also a Leo!)
Study Abroad: She wants to go to either China, Japan, or Korea; she’s half-Korean, so she would really appreciate the opportunity to learn more about her heritage.
Dream job: “Spy for the CIA. I am literally an eight-year-old.” Or anything that would allow her to travel around the world, study different cultures, and make the world a better place. Malia Dickson: Superhero.
Class President Malia takes a selfie at graduation. Our generation’s hero.
Guilty pleasure: Impulse shopping (occasionally) and anything salty or savory in the middle of the night.
Favorite Disney movie: The Lion King or Tangled
Fun Facts: She likes to design greeting cards! Her artistic ability and sense of humor go hand-in-hand to produce some great designs. So if you’re ever in dire need of a great card and Hallmark isn’t cutting it, hit her up. Also, she has a bad habit of misjudging distances and running into doorways. “It is what it is,” she said, laughing. “Don’t be concerned when you see a girl walk into one, two, three doors at a time.” Wise advice for us all, Malia.
