HoDC: Humans of Davidson College is a series started by HerCampus Davidson to profile members of the community and to learn more about their stories.
âMy friends and I here like to call ourselves the âWeirdest Group on Campus’… Last year, this group decided to go to Disney World on a whim. On a random weekend in April at 11:30PM, we packed up, drove nine hours overnight, and had an incredible day at Magic Kingdom. Then we drove the nine hours back to campus and were in our beds by 6:00 AM on Sunday. The person who was staying up with me to keep me awake started hallucinating from exhaustion. This type of trip really opens you up to the possibility of all the things you can do.  There is a car. And dreaming bigâŠâDreaming Disney.â You can go anywhere from Davidson. I had the final driving shift on the way back- the second night of all nighters.  Our willingness to do things differently has really opened us up to doing weird things like this.  Getting off campus is great, but last year I got off too muchâŠI went to the West Coast twice, which is too much.  There is a lot of value to being with people from campus, but I think if you go off campus with Davidson students, it can be really fruitful thing.”
âAnother interesting thing people would want to know about me is why I eat so much rice in Commons.  I love how Davidson has been able to accommodate my individual needs.  All of the really nice people in commons know my name, look out for me, and make sure I am well fed.  They give me a hard time when I skip a meal.My taste buds, because I eat the same things everyday, have become heightened to what I eat.  I have eaten over 100,000 Quaker lightly salted rice cakes in my life, and I can honestly say that every bag taste differently to me.  I want to do a test where I have to match two from one bag and two from another.I donât hate my allergies. I like what I eat, and I get to eat a lot of what I like to eat. Sure it might look like Iâm eating the same thing every day, but it taste slightly different.  It has always been this way, so I just get my variety elsewhere.â  âIâm not doing a semester abroad because of thisâŠdoing it for 6-8 weeks is okay and just being slightly malnourished.  McDonaldâs is a lifesaver because it is everywhere. Whenever I travel I know that McDonaldâs is going to be there for me.  I need to be a McDonaldâs advocate. It is really annoying to me when people diss McDonaldâs becauseâŠÂ McDonaldâs allows me to see the world.”
