Getting over the Seasonal Blues

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Delaware chapter.

Every year about this time, the summer slowly but surely changes into a crisp autumn, with swirling leaves, and gray, gloomy skies. The days get shorter, and I personally cannot help but feel blue. Some of us may suffer from Seasonal Depression Disorder, which occurs because of a bodily reaction to a lack of sunlight; the circadian rhythms of the body react to the dark, and tells your body that it is time to get to sleep or get some rest. But, seriously this is really a disorder, and I recommend doing some further research if you feel especially off-balance during Ā seasonal changes.

However, most of us may start to feel glum as we are at a weird place in the semester, and this can piggy back off of the weather. This is the time of the fall when we are taking midterms, and time is speeding by us; we are tired of doing group work and going to class, and would like it to be winter break already. Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas are coming up, and they are the times we can kick back with family, relax, and have no course-work to deal with. I know that I am definitely getting restless, and would not mind a change of pace, as in sleeping in, cozying up next to the fire, and sipping hot chocolate with loved ones.

Fortunately, after midterms, the semester speeds by, and in a month or so, we will be signing up for spring semester classes, already! No matter what situation you are in, good or bad at this point, just enjoy the present, yet look forward to the good that is to come. If you are ever at a point where you feel really down, and have nowhere to go from there, surround yourself with trustworthy individuals who will give you the support you need. Or, even talk to an expertise who can give wise and helpful solutions. This time is tough for many of us, and I am right there with all of you who may feel down from time to time.

Good luck with midterms and projects, and keep on studying!
