The festive season in India is right around the corner and like every year, we have a bunch of Diwali party invites piling up our mailboxes. Corona might have ruined most of our 2020 plans but no one, not even a pandemic, can mess with the festive buzz within Indian homes.Â
Just because the festivities are a tad bit down and mellow, it doesn’t mean we won’t get to glam up and bring out our inner Desi Girl vibe. And since most of us are stuck in different cities with only 20% of our wardrobes with us, styling hacks are the absolute need of the hour! HCDN brings to you 5 easy outfit ideas for this festive season. Time to swap the PJs with lehengas and transform from Poo to Parvati!
- Lehenga with a twist
-
Fashion stylist Ritvi came up with a unique twist to your basic lehenga that is rotting in your cupboard after you wore it to that one wedding but then it never saw the light of day. It’s super easy to style a plain lehenga into a brand new outfit.
Tip: Leave out your blouse and tie the lehenga above your torso like an off-shoulder dress. Tie a belt around your waist to accentuate your curves or use a dupatta/scarf on top of the dress to give it an edgy look. Throw on some gorgeous boho junk jewelry or statement earrings to add a pop to your subtle outfit, pair it up with heels and tie your hair up in a little bun and you are ready to rock! It’s super easy to put together and looks stunning!
- Saree not sorry
-
This is the best time to raid your mom’s wardrobes and find the perfect Saree that matches your mood. For the blouse, you can go for a plain white shirt, a spaghetti top, boho tops, off-shoulder tops, or even plain tank tops! Play with patterns, mix and match colors, add on some pop-colored earrings or a choker necklace with silver jhumkas and spam your Instagram feeds with a saree photoshoot! Don’t forget to tag us on your pictures, girls! If you are looking for inspo, check out Komal Pandey’s recent Saree styling video!
- The typical DU girl vibe
-
This one is especially for the girls who are too lazy to deck up or find sarees mind-numbingly annoying and difficult to handle. Worry not, HCDN got your back! Has your DU soul missed being out during quarantine? Give it a chance to shine this season.
Tip: Find a perfect kurta and pair it up with mom-jeans or skinny jeans. You can also put together a tank top with your jeans and put on a button-down kurta like a kimono or coat. Bring back your silver jhumkas and silver bangles. Tie your hair in a top-knot bun, dab your eyes with Kohl, spend an hour on your winged eyeliners and rock your parties with comfort and style! Check out Myntra and Anokhi stores for such kurtas. Another site you can try is The Tamarind Chutney, they are a new up and coming sustainable brand and also super affordable!
- Play it with palazzos and skirts
-
If you wish to drop the jeans then go for a long button-down kurta or an Anarkali kurta. You can also tie up your tank tops or plain shirts and pair them with patterned or printed palazzos. Switch from palazzos to skirts to add extra jazz! Since your shirts and tank tops are plain, make your bottoms stand out. To highlight your collarbone, play with chokers, and heavy neckpieces – you can also wear more than one necklace to make the outfit more vibrant. Sport silver/golden rings on both hands, try bracelets or anklets and you are good to go!
Super easy and super comfortable, this outfit will never fail to make you stand out from the crowd. Check out Gypsymaal for a unique curated collection of silver and non-silver jewelry.
- The saree lehenga
-
We are totally obsessed with Komal Pandey and cannot get over her style. Wearing the saree as a saree is cliche, so why not turn it into a lehenga? Pleat the saree carefully and secure them into your skirt so they pinch your waist at the right places. Check out Komal Pandey’s video on how to turn a saree into a lehenga skirt and follow the steps to achieve the perfect look.
Tip: Pair it up with any blouse or top of your choice, add subtle jewelry or go all blingy with golden jewelry. Someone has to give the Bappi Lahri a competition, right? Pair the outfit with your go-to Juttis and you are ready Queen B.Â
