5 Easy Ways to Decorate Your Room for Christmas

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Denison chapter.

We all know that finals are right around the corner, but lets not forget that the holidays are as well! Getting in the Christmas spirit shouldn’t be overlooked just because the most wonderful time of year may also be the most stressful. Don’t let the finals restrict you from experiencing the holiday cheer that we look forward to all year long! Here are some ways that you can get in the Christmas spirit and get your mind off of exams for once…

1.     Put up Christmas lights in your room. Take a break from the harsh dorm room lights and enjoy the new festive atmosphere with a set of string lights that are cheap and easy to pick up right at CVS!

2.     Get candles or potpourri that will make your room smell like the holidays. Even though you are not at home, you can still make your room smell like Christmas trees, peppermint, or home made pies!

3.     Make cut out snowflakes to hang in your room. This simple craft is an easy study break and can make your room look like a winter wonderland… even when its 60 degrees outside.

4.     Get the virtual fireplace going. Since we cant actually have fireplaces in our rooms, the closest thing is a Yule Log YouTube video that plays a fire burning (with realistic crackling sounds and all) for up to an hour! No, it does not actually produce heat through your laptop, no matter how SWEET that would be, but it creates a calming atmosphere that is perfect for snuggling up in bed to do some reading.

5.     Play some Christmas music! Nothing gets you in the spirit more than a couple of choruses of “Jingle bell rock”, “Rudolf the Red Nose Reindeer”, or Lady Gaga’s “Christmas Tree.” Whatever Christmas music you like to listen too, Pandora is a perfect way for you to get your Christmas music fix. My personal favorite is the Mariah Carey “All I Want for Christmas is You” station, its been playing pretty much continuously since November 1.

There are plenty of ways to bring the spirit of Christmas to your very own Denison dorm room! Start the countdown people and get excited because Christmas (and finals) is almost here!
