Denison has a wealth of excellent campus media groups like The Denisonian, the Doobie and The Bullsheet. That being said, Her Campus occasionally gets overlooked. The name itself implies that the website is exclusively for college female students, which is as far from the truth as it gets. Men are often written about in the Campus Cutie and Campus Celebrity sections, and many of the articles posted are entertaining or relatable to almost anyone.Â
Here are five reasons why you should consider giving HC Denison a try!
1. Writing articles for Her Campus is not time consuming.
Writing for HC Denison is not as stressful as putting together a 500-word story for a newspaper, and you have tons of free reign to write about whatever you want! As Editor-in-Chief of The Denisonian, I can attest to that. While I am on a deadline for both publications, for Her Campus, I don’t have to stress 24/7 about how to get ahold of a source, or a writer falling through with a story.
2. It’s a great way to get connected with collegiettes at other schools.
Her Campus has chapters across the United States and in Canada. Each chapter has an advisor, who is usually a Campus Correspondent at another college or university, and you communicate with her on a weekly basis. Not to mention, you can gain extra Instagram and Twitter followers!
3. You can write about whatever interests you.Â
This is one of the reasons why I love Her Campus so much. You can post a fun story, complete with gifs, about all of the feelings you get when watching Friends, but there are also very emotional stories from real college women about struggles they have gone through and overcome.Â
4. Her Campus looks good on a resume.
This is one of the many things that people think about before they join a club or organization.
5. Her Campus teaches you valuable skills that will help you succeed as a post-graduate.
Being a Campus Correspondent also involves posting on social media frequently, so you quickly learn how to connect with a mass following. Social media is a necessary tool in today’s professional world. In addition, writing for an online publication helps if you want a career in journalism. Because Her Campus requires so much communication, you will also become skilled at email correspondence.
