My Top 5 Study Spots at Denison

The third and fourth week of the semester at Denison always seems to be when the level of fun goes down and the stress levels go up. One of the only ways I can motivate myself to focus and get work done is to do it in a calm and comfortable location. I think that the best places to study on campus take a while to discover, so here I am making it a bit easier for people to find the hidden gems on the Hill. I think it’s really important to find places that make studying more tolerable and productive. Below are my top five places to study on campus:

1. 5th or 6th floor of talbot

Arguably the place with the best view on campus is the top floors of Talbot. If you haven’t explored this building, there are tables and seating areas in the corner windows on each floor, showcasing the gorgeous scenery Granville has to offer. It’s especially beautiful when the sun is setting and the trees are changing colors.

2. Slivy’s

There’s something about the lounge of Slivy’s Cafe that just puts me at peace. Especially when it’s cold outside, I love sitting on one of the couches in front of the fireplace. It’s a very cozy area that not many people are aware of, or at least consider bringing homework to.

3. Behind Hoaglin wellness center

There’s a really nice and secluded area behind the wellness center with high rise tables and other seating that I’ve found is a nice place to dial in. People rarely walk by, and there’s something about all the plants and chirping coming from the trees that makes it quite peaceful.

4. The beach

If you’re not sure what the beach is, you’re missing out. It’s the cement patio area in between Sawyer and Beaver, and is arguably the spot on campus with the best view of the sunset (although the lack of sand and crashing waves can be depressing). It’s a great place to go with friends and have a refreshing outdoor study session.

5. Anywhere in an Adirondack chair

One thing I adore about Denison is all the cute red Adirondack chairs scattered across campus. Whether it’s East Quad, A-Quad, South Quad, or North Loop, there are numerous chairs for students to relax in between classes or after a long day of learning. I enjoy soaking up some sun while getting homework done, but try to avoid the most populated areas because let’s be real: people-watching can be distracting!
