Spring Break Slump

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Denison chapter.

POSITIVITY TO OVERCOME THE PRE-SPRING BREAK SLUMP

The semester seems to be flying by, March is upon us and spring break is just around the corner. If the past month and a half has gone by so quickly, why are these last couple weeks before our break going by so painfully slow? The vision of sunlight unaccompanied by snow and bitter winds seems like a distant fantasy, only attained by enduring the stress of midterms. As the “weeks from hell” turn into a string of never ending long nights, and frigid walks home from the library, it’s important to not let this exhaustive pattern get the best of us! As always, when you’re stressed out and would rather be anywhere else but locked on the fifth floor of the library, keeping a positive attitude will save you from the dark depths of a late winter slump. Instead of framing your next couple weeks as a time of anxiety about paper deadlines, and dreaded group presentations, frame the upcoming events as challenges that you will overcome; this will make your spring break that much more worth it. Let yourself get excited about spending a couple more fun night out with your friends, or going to River Road before classes to get a good start to your day, or getting late night on Thursdays in Slayter with your study buddies, or taking a night off to watch new episodes of The Bachelor or Scandal. Stop torturing yourself by only thinking about the struggles of the next two weeks before spring break. Give yourself a minute to reflect on what good things will come, and always keep your eye on the prize: that much-anticipated week of hangin’ and chillaxin’ that is in everyone’s near future.
