Welcome to Denison, collegiettes! Â If you are a returning student, welcome back! Â It’s the start of a new school year, which means that excitement is in the air. Â College can be stressful and confusing, but it is also a great opportunity to learn a lot about yourself and others. Â Want to have a great year? Â We do, too. Â Below are some tips on how to start the semester off on the right foot.
- Don’t be afraid to try something new. By pushing yourself outside of your comfort zone, you can potentially meet new people and find your niche on campus.  Join a club or introduce yourself to your hallmates.  It may sound daunting, but what’s the worst that could happen? Â
- Introduce yourself to your professors and become a regular visitor during their office hours. Professors love it when students show ambition and dedication.  By building a solid relationship with your professors from the beginning, you will be more likely to reach out and ask for help. Â
- Become familiar with the resources available to you. Â Denison faculty and staff is always willing to lend a helping hand, but it’s important you know where to go to ask for help. Â Know the numbers for campus safety, Whisler Health Center, the career & development office, and your RA. Â Most importantly, don’t be afraid to reach out when you’re struggling.
- Have fun! Yes, academics are important, but treat yourself by hanging out with friends or going out.  If you’re not a party person, don’t be afraid to hang out in your room and have a Zac Efron movie marathon.  You’re mental and emotional health will benefit from taking the occasional break from studying.
