5 Body Positive Anthems to Boost Your Confidence

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at DePaul chapter.

One of the best ways to express yourself and feel confident is through music. On days where you need a little pick-me-up, here are five body positive anthems performed by some powerful ladies:

1. “***Flawless” by Beyoncé, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

Obviously, Queen Bey has got to be on this list. She is known for her empowering lyrics and not being afraid to embrace her body. This is the ultimate confidence-booster for when you’re feeling down–Beyonce literally tells us to say “I look so good tonight”!

2. “Secrets” by Mary Lambert

Mary Lambert is totally honest about her struggles and doubts she faces every day. She expresses the importance of accepting yourself and not letting the world try and change you. Mary is so over society telling us to “hide the things we don’t like about ourselves”, because we can all learn to accept them and feel confident at the end of the day.

3. “Confident” by Demi Lovato

Demi nails it on the head with this one. “What’s wrong with being confident”? Nothing! In this song, Demi encourages young women to stand up to society’s standards and not be ashamed to love ourselves. She’s tired of being patronized and she’s ready to show the world that she’s a boss.

4. “Who Says” by Selena Gomez & The Scene

Being one of Selena’s most influential and inspiring songs, “Who Says” is always a great morale booster (and Disney Channel throwback!). This song is about standing up and believing in yourself, even if others don’t. “I’m no beauty queen, I’m just beautiful me” is an important lyric because you don’t have to fit into a certain mold, you are beautiful in your own right.

5.  “Born This Way” by Lady Gaga

We can always count on Mother Monster for uplifting our spirits. Lady Gaga calls upon people of all origins and gender expressions and encourages them to love themselves authentically. This timeless, upbeat anthem serves to inspire everyone to express their beauty loud and proud–”’cause baby, you were born this way”!
