This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at DePaul chapter.
Name: Mi(Chelle) Ivancic
Hometown: Hickory Hills, IL! It’s a really really small town near the end of the Orange Line. The only way you probably know it is that it’s sort of ish near Orland Park Mall
Major (Minor, if it applies): Literary Studies; Spanish and Marketing
Dream Job: Editor/Publisher/ I’m a sophomore and we just finished Week 6. I don’t even know anymore.
Campus Involvement: Phi Mu Fraternity and DePaul Irish Society
Why are you a Campus Celebrity?
I was told that I’m a Campus Celebrity because I’m one of the two Campus Correspondents for our chapter! However, I think that the only circumstance in which I am a campus celebrity is if I am being recognized for being the sassiest worker in the John T. Richardson library.
In your own words, what is Her Campus DePaul?
Her Campus is an online magazine that, like the Constitution, is written by the women of DePaul for the women of DePaul. I think it’s pretty hard to define HC DPU because we are so new. We could literally turn it into anything we want it to be, at this point. In the end, I guess it will become whatever our staff wants it to be. The writers who do the grunt work will be allowed to dictate what we are. I can’t answer this, but I know it’s going to be awesome.
What’s the purpose of Her Campus?
To me, at least, the purpose of Her Campus has been giving myself a voice and giving myself a place to belong. The girls I have worked with on Her Campus have seen me in my most genuine state and somehow haven’t tried to oust me out of power.
How long have you been apart of Her Campus?
About a year! Which is crazy. It seems like so much longer. Further, I’ve been a campus correspondent since March and have been e-mailing ever since.
What is your favorite article you’ve written for Her Campus?
I really like my How To: Organize for Success from the beginning of the year. I know! It’s super nerdy, but I really am particular about how I organize my apartment and my life and I just had a lot of fun putting that article together even though the page views were a little low.
What is your favorite type of article to write for us and why?
My favorite type of article to write is definitely a blog! I think they’re so much fun and you have so much space to be creative. I like them because it can literally be anything under the sun from makeup tips to political opinions. It’s a great representation of the DePaul women’s population, honestly. It’s such a weird collection of articles and it really doesn’t make sense, but they belong together and it would be weird if one of the demographics we hit with our blog entrees wasn’t there.
What’s your favorite part of being a member of Her Campus and what’s your favorite memory?
My favorite part of being a Her Campus staff member is the friendships I’ve made. Writing is such a vulnerable thing that you have to be so genuine with someone the second you meet them in a professional writing atmosphere. Because of this immediate and harsh honesty, I believe the bonds I’ve made have been stronger because of it.
My favorite memory so far is definitely the Involvement Fair from this fall! It was a miserable day, to be quite honest. It was rainy and cold and it was so windy that we, as an Executive Board, had to take turns fetching the materials we brought that were flying all over the quad and the trifold couldn’t stand up by itself and it was a hot mess. But, I had one of those moments where you’re on such a struggle bus that you take a moment and realize that you wouldn’t give anything to have not lived that moment. Yes, that day was a mess, but I got to spend it with my friends and I got to talk about an organization I love and it just gives me the warm and fuzzies when I think about it.
But, meeting Carly Aquillino and Nessa wasn’t half bad either.
Where could we find you on campus?
Hmm…there are probably three places I’m ever on campus. I’m usually at the library, because I work there and am a self-acclaimed Punk Ass Book Jockey, AND I LOVE IT.
I have all of my classes in Arts and Letters so that’s a pretty solid guess or the chairs across from Brownstones!
What’s a normal day in the life of Her Campus’s Campus Correspondent?
Well, I wake up and hit the snooze at least three times. When I actually wake up, I check my e-mail where I read the Skimm, and answer anywhere from 1-10 e-mails from Nationals, companies that want to partner or sponsor us, or new members wanting to get involved! Then, I go to class, hop on an elliptical and listen to twentyone Pilots. Then, I shower and convince myself I don’t have that much homework. Then, I watch the Office while I make dinner and distract myself until about 9:30 when I freak out and do all my homework and vow I will never do that again.
