Finally, the Chicago weather has decided to allow us to step outside without being frozen like ice statues! By this time of the year dealing with the 5:00 crowds at the Ray, running into cute boys who you don’t want to see you with a red, sweaty face or running eyeliner and the same old treadmill are all getting a little old. At Her Campus DePaul we are ready to nix the drab winter gym rountine and return to running outside! Here is our Runner’s Guide to Chicago: Lincoln Park Style.
1. The most obvious choice would be running down Lake Shore Drive–this is a great option, it’s always invigorating and it’s so easy to get there. From the Fullerton L stop, it’s a straight shot to Lake Shore Drive and is only about .7 miles away. When you get to Lake Shore, taking a left will lead you to the gorgeous Diversey golf course, and going right will have you running towards the city; you can’t go wrong either way! My personal favorite thing to do is run towards Navy Pier, do sit-ups on the lawn, lazily people watch for a while, and run back. If you’re feeling up for an adventure, however, bring your UPass, run as far as your legs will possibly take you and take the train back!
2. If you want to change it up and not default to the obvious Lake Shore run, jog down Halsted towards Armitage! I always stop in Lululemon to admire the running clothes that I will one day reward myself with. I also make it a point to run past Sweet Mandy B’s on Webster to pride myself in not stopping to enjoy my favorite yellow frosted sugar cookie!
3. Running north towards the Belmont Stop in Boystown is the perfect distance and ideal spot for window-shopping while running. You can see all the newest gadgets in the ever-so-raunchy sex shops, notice the new American Apparel window arrangement, and take note of all the cute spring dresses in the multitude of boutiques.
Wherever you choose to go, enjoy and be safe!!
