If you ever need a pick-me up, someone to laugh with or are just looking for a downright good time, look no further. Brad Harris is one of the most enthusiastic people we have ever met on DePauw’s campus. This guy is so easy to talk to and his openness makes you feel like you’ve known him for years instead of a mere few months, weeks or even minutes. Always stopping to converse with those who pass him and waving to friends from afar, Brad loves to be connected to those around him. With his charismatic presence, it’s no wonder he is this week’s Campus Cutie!
HC: Brad, can you tell us a little bit about yourself.
BH: All right. My name is Brad Harris. My intended double major is saxophone performance and theater, and hopefully with a minor is political science. Hopefully I’ll get all that done in 3 years. I’m from Neenah, WI. It is about nine to 10 hours north of here, which is why I always fly home.
Â
HC: So we know you are a member of Delta Upsilon Fraternity. What is your favorite thing about DU?
BH: Oh, my favorite thing about DU is that we have an eclectic group of guys. No one man in our fraternity is the same and that’s so refreshing every single day. I just get so many different perspectives and personalities and conversations every single day, you know? So yes, that something I definitely cherish about my house.
HC: Very cool.
BH: Shout out to you, brothers!
Â
HC: So, besides DU, are you involved in anything else on campus?
BH: I am a School of Music student.  I am in the jazz ensemble. I’m also heading a steering committee for a 5th house music group, which is essentially a music group that does a lot of community outreach.  It’s like an octopus in that it has a lot of different phalanges going out into different things, like theater or writing scripts — it’s all basically art. I’m also in DePauwcapella, which is DePauw’s acapella group. Then I’m involved with student government and I’m a swimmer, though I’m not currently on the swim team this year.
HC: Wow! So you’re a really busy guy then huh?
BH: Yes.
Â
HC: Well swim team is a hot topic right now with conference just that last week, when you swim what do you race?Â
BH: Distance freestyle and backstroke.
HC: We’ve heard the swim team has been doing very well. You must be pretty proud of the team.
BH: Oh yes, we have a very good team. We’re actually in the top ten teams in the nation for Division III, which is a huge deal. We are kicking a**. I’m very excited.
Â
HC: Considering how crazy you’re life sounds, what do you do in the little free time you have?
BH: Homework, practicing voice — because I also take lessons here — or practicing saxophone. Yeah, I don’t really have time for much more!
Â
HC: Do you have a certain kind of music you like to listen to?
BH: I love a lot of things, it’s more what I don’t like. I don’t like country, unfortunately. I love musicals, I love classical music, I love opera…I may be a nerd, but I love it. I love classic saxophone.  We actually have a concerto competition starting next week and I’m competing in that, so we’ll see how that goes *fingers crossed*.
Â
HC: If I were to steal your iPod, what would be playing?
BH: Probably Pitch Perfect
Â
HC: All right, so we know you’re a very social person, but when it comes to garnering romantic interest do you have a good set of pick up lines?
BH: Oh I don’t have pick up lines. People just come to me — no, just kidding.
HC: Right well people are just drawn to you, you’re like a magnet!
BH: No, no, stop, stop — the thing is I’m just a very flirtatious person, but I don’t try to be. That’s just my personality. So I’ve never had to worry about pick up lines.
Â
HC: To get away from your hoards of admirers, do you have a secret little hiding spot on campus?
BH: My room. I have this giant fuzzy chair from Pier One. I love to nap. I nap hardcore on that chair. I love to just sit there and listen to music and just jam out.
Â
HC: What’s the craziest moment you’ve had at DePauw?
BH: Oh, one time, I went long boarding when I had a lot of “Gatorade.” Yes, I had a lot of “Gatorade” and this was the first time I had ever long boarded in my life.
HC: Oh no, did you beef it?
BH: Yep. Then afterwards my friends and I found a cat, when we were, you know, drinking some “Gatorade” and we decided to bring it into a fraternity and let it run around. Letting it loose.
HC: Well I’m sure you worked up a hardy appetite after that! Where is your favorite place to eat in Greencastle?
BH: Almost Home, for sure, It’s classic.
Â
HC: Okay, if you could describe yourself in one word what would it be?
BH: Weird. No—wait a goof. Yes. Goof. Circle that.
Â
HC: Noted. Do you have any goofy hidden talents you’d like to share?
BH: I dance all the time…like all the time. When people aren’t looking I just dance and I love choreographing. I was in show choir in high school and I can still do every single dance that I learned.
HC: Nice. I can definitely see you busting moves everywhere. So Brad, is there any last thing you would like to leave our readers with?
BH: I am so happy that I’m DePauw’s campus cutie right now! I feel very honored. My number is 920— (erupts into laughter). But really, thank you so much Her Campus.
HC: Thank you Brad, you’re a thrill!
