Color is All the Talk as Fall Rolls Through

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at DePauw chapter.

The leaves on the trees aren’t the only colors changing on campus this fall.  Fall is the season for squeezing the last wear out of your favorite summer brights and pulling out those ever-so-cozy winter pieces we all seem to miss in the heat of summer.

Navy Never Grows Old: Whether its that navy J.Crew Quilted Vest that seems to have taken over campus or a Vineyard Vines baseball cap, navy is perfect for combining with those bright summer colors before the chill comes, yet still looks great all winter long.

How to wear it best: Try pairing your navy with something brighter such as a hot pink, emerald or if you’re feeling a little patriotic, throw on some red-lipstick to give your look some pop!

P.S whoever said you can’t mix black and navy clearly did not understand the necessity of black leggings.  Go ahead and mix ‘em! Just make sure to add some brighter colors to the mix that will bring you out of the darkness!

Emerald City: Dorothy isn’t the only one going for the green.  Emerald is one of this season’s hottest commodities! This feminine shade of green freshens up any color combination.

How to wear it best: Emerald looks great anywhere.  For a quieter touch, try a statement necklace with emerald embellishments.  For the bolder, try a vest, colored denim or a skirt.

Dress down that business casual.  Button downs fit perfectly under quilted vests with a pair of jeans or cords with boots.

Perfect Poppy: Reds and oranges are the perfect transition for fall.  Poppy brings the perfect amount of warmth and fun to fall! Darker than peach, but not blood red, poppy brings just the right amount of color.

How to wear it best:  Poppy is great in anything from pants to tops and scarves to jackets.  Poppy has enough orange that most skin tones can pull it off, but as that summer glow fades, look to shoes for a fun pop of color!

This DePauw trendsetter knows how to look cute and stay comfortable with a poppy top and unique jean jacket.

All About Acai: Fall and winter are the perfect time for those rich jewel tones.  Acai provides warmth without having to reach for the grays and blacks.  Acai is flattering on any complexion and will make those blue-eyes irresistible!

How to wear it best: Give your acai a little life by bringing out its brighter side with a gold statement necklace or belt.

This DePauw cutie rocks an acai dress while dodging the cool wind with a patterned scarf and cozy sweater.

Fuchsia is Fabulous: For the Sharpay Evans of the world, fear not, pink has made the fall transition.  It is time to put away the beach-y neon for the season and go a little darker.  Fuchsia is rich and warm and like acai, flattering for any complexion.

How to wear it best: Flaunt your feminine side, fuchsia looks great however you are comfortable, whether it’s a handbag, blouse, vest or even a dress.

This DePauw fashionista knows how to rock her fuchsia and stay warm with a trendy military jacket on a cool fall day. Â
