Yes, Valentine’s Day has already come and gone. But, since February is American Heart Month we’re thinking that the love should continue way past the 14th. The Campus Cutie staff hunted down four eligible bachelors on campus to fill you in on their past and (hopeful) future Valentines. Ladies and gentlemen, you’re not out of luck. Check out our four bachelors of February.
Hunter Mitchell ‘16
Newly single Hunter Mitchell met with us and cracked jokes about spending this Valentine’s Day alone for the first time in years, but needless to say, he was kind of excited to do so. He is one of Phi Delta Theta’s newest pledges, he loves to sing, play guitar, and spend time with his friends. Ladies, with his charming smile and witty sense of humor, he probably won’t be single for long!
HerCampus: Let’s just jump right in! We hear you are newly single, and that this was your first Valentine’s Day without a girlfriend for quite some time! Did you have any big plans for yourself for this special day?
Hunter Mitchell: I did. I woke up and took a shower. Put on some nice clothes on—always lookin’ cute, you know? And, then I’m hopped in my car, drove to Indy, and had a nice dinner by myself.
HC: Haha, so I take it you didn’t have any major plans then.
HM: No, no I didn’t. It was a low-key day.
HC: In the past, though, have you planned any really great dates for a girl on Valentine’s Day?
HM: Well of course! Planning dates is my specialty! One time I took a girl downtown, and we just walked around the Circle for a little bit. And then I took her out to eat, and we just spent the rest of the night talking and walking around the canal in the city. It was pretty fun.
HC: That sounds like a really cute night!
HM: Well it was. It was Valentine’s Day! It’s a special evening!
HC: Now that you’re single, how can a girl win your heart?
HM: I’d say just be genuine. Don’t act like somebody that you’re not because for me, I don’t try to please anybody. I try to be myself all of the time, and if I see that a girl is the exact same way, that means she could be a good fit. And, if she has amazing eyes, then I’m just automatically attracted to her.
HC: Are you currently looking for a girl right now?
HM: I would say not really. I’m exploring my options. I just got out of a 5-year relationship, so that’s all I really know. And, since that relationship didn’t work, I guess I’m just trying to figure out what I really want and who I really want to be with.
HC: That’s a good way to look at it.
HM: I’m just not ready to rush into anything.
HC: Can you give some advice to our readers as to how they can make any date special?
HM: I think it’s mostly up to the guy to impress the girl. For me, I’d be perfectly fine with her just being with me all day and showing me affection and letting me know she cares. As long as a girl does that, her man should be happy.
HC: Did you ever end up getting any really bad gifts from your girlfriend?
HM: I mean yeah, she made these cookies, but they weren’t very good. They were pretty burnt and crunchy, and so I ended up just throwing them away.
HC: That’s terrible!! Are you suggesting that we shouldn’t bake for you guys?
HM: No. I’m always down for some cookies, but only if they aren’t burned!
HC: How do you typically approach a girl that you like?
HM: Honestly, I don’t even know. I haven’t had to spit any game or pick up a girl since 8th grade. Obviously now I hope I can use some different tactics than I did back then.
HC: Are you enjoying being single, though?
HM: I am, I really am.
HC: That’s really good to hear. Well do you have any final words for the ladies at DePauw?
HM: Call me.
Boyu Meng ‘15
Boyu Meng is a smart, sassy Physics and Biochemistry double major who’s primary goal is getting into medical school. This sophomore Sigma Alpha Epsilon cutie is full of heart and can show you a whole new world. Yes, pun on Aladdin.
HerCampus: Boyu, how have you been?
Boyu Meng: Busy. I just got a job as a lab assistant, so I have six labs a week plus classes. It’s not fun.
HC: Doesn’t sound like it. Well, then let’s just get right down to it. Would you start by telling me about a Valentine date that you have been on?
BM: I have never been on one.
HC: You have never had a Valentine? What would you do at home for Valentine’s Day?
BM: I used to buy chocolate for my dad so he could give it to my mom, because he usually forgot that it was Valentines Day. My mom is the opposite. She is a really romantic person.
HC: How so?
BM: In Japan we have a white Valentine’s Day, a month after actual Valentines Day. It is where the girl would give chocolate, usually white, to the boy who had given it to them. It was a way to show that they liked them too. My mother always does this for my dad.
HC: That is a neat tradition that I have actually never heard of before. One last question and then I’ll let you get on your busy way. What is your dream Valentines Day date?
BM: I would want to start by going to a classic art museum. I would want him to appreciate the artwork I like. We would then go to a really fancy Chinese restaurant, A real Chinese restaurant too, not a fake American one. To finish the night off we would cuddle up with a hilarious comedy.
HC: Seems to me that you are a hopeless romantic just like your mom.
Carson White ‘14
While Kentucky boy Carson White does not consider himself to be a hopeless romantic, I definitely consider him as such! He loves to cook, drink wine, and spend cozy nights in when he has a special gal in his life. Such a gentleman, sitting down to chat with Carson was a real treat. I hope you all have the chance to meet him. He’s surely not one to miss out on!
HerCampus: Thanks so much for meetng with us, Carson! We’re so excited you’re one of our February eligible bachelors!
Carson White: Thanks. You know, I feel pretty honored. I’m looking forward to being a Campus Cutie.
HC: So, we understand that you’re single, what did you do this Valentine’s Day?
CW: Well, I cooked for someone special. I wasn’t sure if she was going to come over or not, so it was kind of fun and nerve-wrecking planning it.
HC: So, do you have that special someone in your life?
CW: Haha, no. Not now.
HC: Do you like to cook a lot?
CW: Of course. I like to cook stir fry, curry, anything.
HC: With girlfriends in the past, would you often have them over and cook for them?
CW: Oh yeah, of course!
HC: Have you ever pulled any super smooth moves in the past?
CW: Well, there was this one time I surprised someone with a bunch of roses, and it was at school. But, I had to get to her school, so I drove all the way across town, picked up roses, and then dropped them off.
HC: Oh my goodness, I bet she loved it.
CW: She did.
HC: Then, did you take her out to dinner?
CW: I did. There’s this little Italian shop in my hometown, and it’s absolutely great.
HC: So Carson, how can a girl win your heart?
CW: Just be willing to seize the moment with me and enjoy life. I like someone that would love a glass of wine and enjoy my food with me.
HC: And how would you try to win her over?
CW: I like to talk, I like to enjoy her company, I like to talk about what she likes to talk about.
HC: Can you give some of the ladies out there advice on how to make a guy feel special?
CW: I think just a night with them. No cell phones. Just a movie or some good conversation.
HC: Carson, I have to ask you, do you consider yourself to be a hopeless romantic?
CW: Of course not, no.
HC: Are you absolutely sure?
CW: I never categorized my self as that, but I guess if all the signs are there then I must be.
HC: I think they might be! Well, do you have any last words for the ladies at DePauw?
CW: Live for the moment.
HC: Before we finish up, would you like to give a shoutout to any lucky woman in particular?
CW: My mother.
Jimmy Vann ‘13
Jimmy Vann has that uncanny ability to make any girl smile with his hearty laugh that fills the room. This senior cutie is single, ladies (and only on campus for a limited time!). Don’t miss out on getting to know this stud of a guy.
HerCampus: How about you tell us the basics, Jimmy.
Jimmy Vann: My name is James Murdock Vann IV, I’m a Communications expert with a minor in Lady Charming, I’m from West Lafayette and I am technically single, but I have my heart set on a specific lady who shall remain nameless throughout this question/answer session.
HC: This week, Campus Cutie decided to interview four eligible bachelors on campus in honor of American Heart Month. Do you know any heart healthy tips?
JV: Exercise and eat healthy.
HC: That’s fair enough. The other heart holiday, Valentine’s Day, came and went. Would you say you are for, neutral or against Valentine’s Day?
JV: I’m for it. Especially when my main squeeze is down to hauh around.
HC: What does “hauh” mean?
JV: It means what it means.
HC: Then did you have anything plans for that Thursday?
JV: Profess my love to my secret crush.
HC: Who you still want to remain nameless?
JV: Yeah.
HC: If you had to plan the very best date activities within driving distance, what would they be?
JV: Paintballing and Green Frogurt.
HC: And, then how would a girl win your heart?
JV: By eating endless amounts of pretzel breadsticks and Reese’s cup pies at the Duck with me. Being built well is in right now, very European.
HC: Have you ever pulled out any cliche date moves?
JV: I watch Titanic and the Notebook every night before bed.
HC: Nice.
JV: I can be a sensitive guy.
HC: What would be your go-to food for a girl on date?
JV: Beef stew.
HC: If you were to receive any gift from a girl, what would you hope to get?
JV: A Groupon for a karate class.
HC: Do you have any advice for the ladies of DePauw?
JV: Holla ‘atchya boy
HC: Always. And, lastly have you learned any love advice from your four years at DePauw?
JV: Not really.
HC: Great.
There you have ladies and gents, four single men of DePauw. Their final request for all you readers: follow your heart. Cliché as it may sound, we, the Campus Cutie staff, agree with it wholeheartedly. So, go where your heart takes you and enjoy the rest of American Heart Month!
