Film photography, some consider, is an art form of the past. Once digital cameras gained popularity, film went by the wayside. However, Generation Z is reviving this form of photography and showing it love once more. The question is, why did we decide film photography is the best way of capturing moments and memories?
Pop culture is bringing film cameras to the forefront and reminding the world why it used to be the most beloved. Influencers such as Emma Chamberlain are showing off their film cameras and the photos they captured on them. The production company, A24, is blowing up for the nostalgic feel of their films due to them using film to shoot their movies. The most famous photographers amongst our generation either began shooting on film or are switching over to it (if you haven’t before, go look at some of Petra Collins’ work).
Disposable cameras are all the rage nowadays, but due to their lack of sustainability, most Gen Z’s are switching over to point and shoot film cameras to achieve that same nostalgic effect. It’s a vibe that makes even the simplest of moments look cinematic, and having film photos lying around the house makes your memories ten times more special.Â
If you have been watching shows like Euphoria, or honestly any movie or tv show produced by A24, you may have been inclined to try out your hand at film photography. This is your sign to do it.
Film is the original form of photography, and although digital cameras do come in handy, nothing will ever beat the timeless beauty of film.Â
