Follow the Leader: Top 5 Twitter Feeds to Follow

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at DePauw chapter.

Even though you find UberFacts uselessly enlightening and Total Sorority Move hilariously spot-on, don’t let them clog your home page. Twitter is a great way to get caught up with current events or the latest lifestyle tips in 160 characters or less. Scrolling through these six Twitter feeds every morning will benefit your mind, body and social spirit! While it’s great to drop a fun fact like, Dairy Queen actually has its own clothing line, every once in a while, it’s even more impressive to bring up how one study says swearing helps blow off steam when you’re stressed in a conversation.

1. President Casey @PresidentCasey

Not only is he the president of our university, but he’s also bridging the gap between students and faculty through his witty and insightful tweets. When DePauw’s ID swipe system wasn’t working, students directly tweeted @PresidentCasey and he immediately replied: On it. Public Safety heading over now. He offers updates on Anderson Street construction or athletics and reminders for upcoming speakers or lectures, among the occasional joke: View from the office: First cold morning at DePauw. Walking to class Pi Phi’s in boots, SigChi’s in hoodies, Beta’s still in shorts. His tweets are proof we are produce uncommon success because we have an uncommon, approachable relationship with the leader of our university. If you aren’t already, follow him now and embrace this opportunity to tweet and be heard. And if it’s your lucky day or you have something important to say, he’ll Retweet you.

2. Women’s Health Magazine @WomensHealthMag

This Twitter feed tweets it all: healthy recipes, exercise tips, fashion updates, medical warnings, inspirational quotes and pop-culture news. The best part, it’s free—perfect for our college budgets! You don’t need to buy the magazine to read the articles and reap the rewards. Here’s a recent tweet:Dreams are today’s answers to tomorrow’s questions.”—Edgar Cayce. Sleep tight tonight with these expert tips! It also included the link to an article with tips like “set a bedtime.” Apparently, it’s just as important to set a bedtime as it is to set an alarm because your body needs a routine. I’ll be taking that advice, especially during finals!

3. The Today Show @todayshow

It’s hard to wake up every morning at DePauw with spare time to sip your coffee, watch The Today Show and imagine you had Kathie Lee and Hoda’s “job.” Instead, follow the morning show’s feed to enjoy the similar combination of relevant news and quirky stories.

4. Thought Catalog @thoughtcatalog

The Thought Catalog is like TSM/TFM on adderall. Its articles are way more than 160 characters and way funnier than any sorority or fraternity “move.” At surface level, reading these articles may not make you a smarter person, but beneath catchy titles like Lessons Learned Via My Middle School Yearbook lies personal essays with “relevant and relatable writing.” Its message is deeper than just saying, “It is possible to forget an entire person and remember them all at once…like Jesse McCartney.” And it’s up to you to interpret this message, whether you think it’s about people fading in and out of your life or how life goes on. Even better than Thought Catalog’s articles is the ability for YOU to write and submit them. Have something clever to say? Add it to the Thought Catalog.

5. Eat This, Not That @EatThisNotThat

Eat This, Not That is like a good friend: it understands your wants and caters to your needs. It doesn’t hold you back from cravings like pizza, donuts, and McDonalds. Instead, it offers healthier alternatives that are similar and just as yummy. For example, Eat This, Not That tweets: Coffee alternative: Honest Tea Community Green Tea > Lipton Green Tea with Citrus—you’ll save over 150 calories & 40 g sugar! Its tweets are short and sweet, black and white. No diet necessary.

Follow these top five Twitter feeds and you’ll surely become a leader in the way you live, think, and eat!
