Okay, this article should probably come with a strong preface: I am an Apple Music user. I know some might stop reading here, and I can’t blame you. I’m also not here to make people feel bad about something that excites them. I totally get it, and I love my Apple Music Replay! Unfortunately, I don’t use Spotify enough for my Wrapped to be even close to accurate. But here are some points I wanted to make:
- Can we please stop caring about the minutes we stream? Yes, it’s cool to see, but what annoys me is the competition. You’re not superior because you left your tunes on all night while you slept. I even saw someone stream more music than 365 days’ worth by using multiple devices. Good for you, I guess? I just don’t think it needs to be a contest.
- That being said, I’m a little bitter that Taylor Swift made a video for some Spotify users when I don’t think 13,608 minutes of listening to her on Apple Music is too shabby. And she was my #1 Artist by a LONG SHOT. I guess I just don’t know why Spotify gets the favoritism, but my Apple Music subscription will live to see another day.
- I am a Spotify user, and I love using it to collaborate playlists with others. I just wish we could get a rewind that took all of our music streaming services into account. That would be really cool, and slightly more inclusive and accurate? I realize this is a first world problem, but I just wanted to brainstorm it for the sake of the argument.
*Side note: if Taylor Swift had released “You’re Losing Me” to streaming sooner, that could have easily been my number one song. I bought the MP3 file and listened to it on repeat for HOURS.
I am not mad that you want to share your Spotify Wrapped with everyone. I totally did the same thing with Apple Music. I guess I just feel a little left out on the holiday. Happy Spotify Wrapped and Apple Music Replay to all who celebrate. Let our love for music live on!
