Winter is always a tricky season for fashion. You want to look cute, but you always want to stay warm too. Walking outside in a cute mini skirt sounds like a good idea until you step a foot outside and the hair on your legs stand straight up. The easy solution to the freezing temperatures is layering.
Layering can be done so many ways. If you are wearing a skirt, layer on tights and a cute pair of big warm socks. If you are going to be outside for a while, layer on a massive fashion scarf. Not only does it keep you warm, it also looks fashion forward. The look below highlights how a neutral colored scarf adds to a simple look.
Another layering technique I find stylish is oversized sweaters. Oversize sweaters are a necessity of every closet. Running late? Just throw on a flannel and an oversized sweater. It is a very simple look, but the layering looks complex and chic while the sweater works to keep you protected from the brisk winter weather.
I especially like this layered outfit. The simple sweater has an intricate pattern and could look good on its own. The pop of lace from underneath the sweater adds a bit of personal flair. The neutral green also matches very well with the brown jacket. The hat is perfection and completes the look. It adds a touch of sophistication while also keeping your head nice and warm. Â Â
This last look is my favorite example of layering. She is wearing a multicolored flannel with a fur jacket on top. These two layers keep her body warm, while the puffer jacket secures the warmth. I also like this look because she is not afraid to embrace the mittens. These mittens work perfectly because of the neutral color, which also compliment the hat.
Winter can be a very difficult season if you are not prepared. The Midwest can get pretty cold which is why layering is a necessity of winter. Layering is a fashion technique everyone can master. All you have to do is layer up on a few of your favorite pieces, throw on an outer piece and call it a day. You are warm and fashionable. What more could you want?
