Now, most everyone is familiar with the infamous Instagram user, @glutenfree_based_steaks, who prides himself on being a Heritage Christian alum. But who is Matthew Nolan Costakis? See what’s beneath the toon-squad jersey and what motivates him to overcome the hardships associated with a wheat/gluten allergy. You will be pleasantly surprised.
Her Campus: So Matt, where are you from?
Matt Costakis (MC): Basically, I am a young blood, born and raised in Carmel, Indiana–a place that was noted as the number one place to live in America.
HC: Oh, really? Well aren’t you lucky to come from such a great neighborhood. Where did you say you got this information from again?
MC: I want to say, Forbes List but I can’t validate that…but it’s out there it is documented…somewhere.
HC: So do you currently live in Carmel?
MC: No, I live in the 317; also known as the 31heaven which is in Indianapolis, Indiana.
HC: Well doesn’t that sound like a fun place to live! So, tell the readers a bit about yourself.
MC: My major is currently undecided, but I am figuring out what I am going to pursue in the future. I am affiliated with the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. I like to play intramural basketball with my brothers; and I also participate in organized athletics at Depauw: I am on the football team…living the Division 3 dream. (We’re getting the bell back.)
HC:That’s great, you are very involved on campus! So what is a fun fact about yourself that no one knows?
MC: I have a low key taste for Adele and Sarah Mclachlan music. I have a lot of respect for both of their strong vocal capabilities.
HC: So what would be your “high key” taste in music?
MC: Waka Flocka Flame, Trinadad James, and I like old school rap such as Dem Franchise Boyz.
HC: Okay Matt. Clearly I think all of our readings are dying to know at this point…what’s your relationship status?
MC: First and foremost, I am married to the game; my primary focus goes into the grind. However, I am in a dedicated relationship with a female who is a sophomore Alpha Phi. She is real.
HC: So how would you treat this “real girl” on a “real” date?
MC: If were staying in Greencastle, then we will go on a nature walk, go to the local cinema for a flick, or even go to Marvins for a candle lit dinner (The romantic lighting takes a little more effort though…I slipped a friend I know there a Lincoln to make the candle lit dinner possible).
HC: Candle lit dinner! Wow, you are a true gentlemen, Matt. Speaking of Marvins, what is your Marvins order?
MC: I have to stay on the gluten free section of the menu so it limits my options. My order usually consists of Mac bites, wings, and a Mr. Pib. (I always ask for Dr. Pepper because it’s my favorite, but they only have Mr. Pib.)
HC: What’s the most romantic thing you have done for a special girl in the past?
MC: Oh man…(as he ponders because there are so many romantic things he has done) I serenaded a girl on Valentine’s Day with poems and song by Bruno Mars.
HC: OMG that is so romantic! Guys, you better start taking notes from Mr. Costakis on how to treat a girl right. Anyway so Matt, who would you say is your idol/hero?
MC: These days, I aspire to be like a young Cuba Gooding Jr. Specifically, the Cuba Gooding Jr. from “Boyz in the Hood” (because that is my favorite movie) and not the Cuba Gooding Jr. from “Snow Dogs.”
HC: My, that is a very specific example, it seems like you’ve thought about this before. But I must say, I can appreciate the Snow Dogs reference. We have got some great answers from you Matt, any last words that you would like to leave our readers with?
CC: I am #blessed to do this interview. I am thankful to be honored as the Campus Cutie of the week so I want to give a shout out to Her Campus. I would also like to give a shout out to the young Jeff Voherr (J-vo). Have a lovely rest of your day everyone.
That Matt Costakis is a riot, and it’s clear why he was chosen as this week’s campus cutie! I hope you have enjoyed getting to know this “real” guy beneath the toon-squad jersey.
