Kimberly Caldwell may be virtually unknown to many music enthusiasts, but she is no newbie to the music scene. First appearing on the WB’s talent show Popstars and later one of the finalists on American Idol’s second season in 2003, Caldwell proved she can sing. Fuse powerhouse Kelly Clarkson and edgy Pink, Caldwell’s unexpected smoky voice made her a clear standout in each competition. However, unlike most music hopefuls, Caldwell stepped away from the music world after Idol to get involved in various TV hosting gigs. It seems the vacation has served her well as her glam-rock image and strong voice attempt to offer something fresh to the current music scene.
Almost seven years since Idol, Caldwell’s latest single, Desperate Boys and Stupid Girls, is her much needed step in the right direction. Her raspy voice paired with the upbeat pop/rock track makes the single easy to like and an instant mood booster. The track is sprinkled with dance undertones making it a marketable single. Ladies, you all know you love to boogie and America seems to have a passion for dance music. Caldwell’s powerful pipes are also a refreshing step away from the auto tune world. With a powerful chorus, “we’ve got the right to/ take this party over/ changing up the sound,” the track has all the potential in the world to be the next empowering party anthem. Caldwell recently released the music video for the single, which you can check out below. The video is simple and Caldwell looks stunning. Its clear Desperate Boys and Stupid Girls is an uplifting track, which works well with the party themed video.
