Separating the Smooth Caramel from the Coco-Nuts: Picking the Right Sweet(heart)s for V-Day

Mamma told me life is like a box of chocolates… and to a certain extent, so are guys.  Some are dark and deep, others a little nutty, and some are that perfect combination of smooth and sweet. Here’s a fun breakdown of a few of the tempting types you could find in your heart-shaped boxes this Valentine’s Day.
 
Gooey caramel-filled: He’s got all the right ingredients. In extremes, he can stick around maybe a bit too long, but in most cases he’s sweetly smooth. While he may be a bit too mushy at times, you know he means well. All in all, this boy hits the spot and you go for his charm every time.
 
Coconut with dark chocolate: Maybe this guy is exotic, or maybe he’s just bizarre. He looks perfectly normal, even classy on the outside, but get to the center and you get something completely different. Is it strange or is it refreshing? Either way, it normally takes a nibble to tell if you’re going to take the bait and bite or put that boy back in the box.
 
Dark chocolate with chocolate ganache: This hunk is deep through and through. Rich, fulfilling, maybe too dark and intense sometimes, nonetheless what you see is what you get. While there are no surprises with this truffle, there’s something simple and dependable about the way he carries himself.
 
Orange cream-filled: He takes you completely by surprise. Unexpected and sometimes zany, this boy reminds you of the guy you met on your family’s tropical vacation a few years back who still facebooks you from time to time. All in all, he’s exciting, but can be a bit much if you spend too much time with him. Midway through, you’re glad you found him, but also glad his kind isn’t the entire box.
 
Vanilla white cream: Grandma will love him. Classy and polite, this is the kind of guy you can bring to your cousins wedding without fear of his hand slipping too low during the reception or his tennis shoes peeking out from his dress pants. He can be a bit plain at times, but sometimes a classic flavor is exactly what you need.
 
Chocolate-covered toffee with nuts on top: This guy is a bit underrated. He doesn’t quite look like the other chocolates in the box, he has some rough edges and doesn’t really have a soft spot, but the change is nice. He can be a bit tough to bite into, but that’s because he has a few layers to get through. Firm in what he believes in, you know he comes from a solid family and is definitely worth a taste.
 
Chewy caramel: Good in theory, but he sticks around a bit too long. This boy is best in small doses. He can be sweet and classy, but sometimes you feel like your jaw is glued together when you hang out because you can’t get a word in. But still, for some unknown reason, you like the taste.
 
 
Chocolate covered cherries: He is the full package. Perfect on the inside and out, he looks classy and has substance. The cherry convinces you that he’s good for your physical, mental and emotional health. He’s surprising and sweet, but not too sweet, with a satisfying zest for life. This is the guy you can take home to mom and to this year’s formal.
