Taylor Helms is a four-year starter for the Lady Tiger’s Field Hockey team. As the current captain, her responsibilities have taken new form in her final season while she attempts to lead her team to another Final Four appearance. As a three-year Second Team All Conference, All Region, and a two-year Academic All Conference Player, it seems Ms. Helms excels both on and off the field.
Her Campus: Taylor, how is this season going so far?
Taylor: The season is going well, we are gradually improving with each game. We are learning to work the ball up the field as a team creating lots of opportunities. We hope to convert more of those opportunities into goals and continue to improve as the season progresses.
HC: What is your favorite part about being on the field hockey team?
Taylor: My teammates. We each bring our own individuality to the team, which helps create a unit that works as a cohesive group. It’s easy to spend so much time playing field hockey when it’s with people you enjoy being around
HC: How does it feel playing this year after having so much success last year and going to the Final Four?
Taylor: We expect a lot more of ourselves. Last year we saw ourselves as just a team from the Midwest and not an east coast powerhouse. After last season we have more confidence in our ability and see we have the talent to play with the east coast teams as long as we continue to work hard in practice and push ourselves daily.
HC: What are your thoughts or feelings on this being your last season of a sport you’ve dedicated a lot of your life to?
Taylor: It will definitely be hard to leave and no longer have the opportunity to play on such a competitive level. I’ll miss the team and the school, but I hope to continue to work in other areas of field hockey, possibly as a coach, so that I don’t have to give it up completely.
Her Campus wishes Taylor and the rest of the Field Hockey team luck in the rest of their season!
