Ever wonder what your Spotify wrapped is going to look like? I can safely say that all of these artists are going to be mine. The final day for Spotify wrapped was October 31, but it is never too late to start preparing for next year. If you don’t already know and listen to these artists, you absolutely should.Â
Chappell Roan
You have probably already heard Pink Pony Club by Chappell Roan, but if not definitely give it a listen. Chappell has been blowing up on TikTok in the past year and it is so unbelievably deserved. I strongly believe Chappell will become one of the biggest pop stars of our generation soon and you might want to get ahead of the curve now. Seriously, go listen to Chappell Roan.
Favorite song: Naked in ManhattanÂ
Mitski
Mitski is in no way an underground artist, but if you haven’t listened to her music before, you need to start. In my opinion, Mitski is one of the greatest singers and lyricists. She has songs with catchy upbeat music coupled with some of the saddest lyrics you’ll ever hear (I’m looking at you Nobody). Mitski’s music has gotten me through some of the hardest moments in my life, and her soothing voice and heartbreaking lyrics will really hit you right in the gut.Â
Favorite song: I Bet on Losing Dogs
Glass Animals
Once again, definitely not an underground band, but very much worth the hype. Glass Animals’ music can be described with one word: vibes. Glass Animals is the only band I will ever wait 14 hours in the freezing Chicago weather for. The drummer came and brought me and my friend tea because we had been in line for so long. This band is incredibly kind, cares deeply about its fans, and has amazing songs.Â
Favorite song: Life Itself
Taylor Swift
Before I am a person, I am a swiftie. I have been listening to Dr. Swift since I was a child. There is still a video on YouTube of me and my dad singing Speak Now in our living room from 9 years ago (10-year-old me was smart for posting it to a channel under a fake name). I’m sure everyone and their mom is aware of Taylor’s new album Midnights but if you have somehow avoided the internet for the last month, then you should really give it a listen. Sorry Red, but Midnights might be my new favorite album.Â
Favorite song: Treacherous
Elephant Jake
This might be the most underground this list is going to get. If you have any interest in DIY bands, midwest emo, and sweaty basement concerts; this is a band you should check out. Last summer my coworker and I went to New York and Philly to see them perform and then ate spaghetti on the lead singer’s kitchen floor after (Thank you Sal for the spaghetti).Â
Favorite song: Mommy was a Junkie
Video Club
I listened to Video Club for the first time when I was trying to learn French. Despite not learning French anymore, I still listen to Video Club daily. Do I understand what they’re saying? No. Do I care? No. My boyfriend and I will scream and sing what we think are the words every time we are driving somewhere.Â
Favorite Song: SMS
Disclaimer, this is just my personal must-listen-to list. If these artists don’t hit for you, that is totally okay. Everyone has different tastes, but you should really give them all a listen.
