Have you ever wanted a late night snack but don’t have a car to get there? Or maybe you’re out on the town and are craving some fast food, but those restaurants won’t deliver to you! Well you’re in luck because junior, Drew Bailey, and senior, Ian Good, have created Tiger Takeout so DePauw students can get their fix with Taco Bell, McDonalds or Buffalo Wild Wings.
Her Campus: So we are all wondering, how did you come up with the idea of Tiger Takeout?
Tiger Takeout: We were talking one day and had an idea. How convenient would it be if there was an option to have food delivered from the local restaurants that don’t have delivery as an option? We would already pay for that kind of service, so why not turn it into a business? There are many people that want and need food at those times throughout the week, but there aren’t many options to make that happen. We fill that void by offering a service to the DePauw community for a very low price of $3.99.
HC: On behalf of all DePauw students, I’m glad you realized the struggle and are doing something about it! How can people order from you? Is there a website or app they can use, or do they have to call you directly?
TT: For right now you can order at ordertigertakeout.com. We intend on developing an app before the end of the year.
HC: What are your hours for Tiger Takeout? Are you planning on extending to other days of the week?
TT: Currently we are open Thursday through Saturday from 8:00pm to 2:00am. We intend on opening up on Sundays for a 12:00pm run to Plainfield (stay tuned for more information on that).
HC: Oh wow, trips to Plainfield! That will be a nice change of pace for food options too! As someone who can get very, “hangry,” how long can one expect to wait for his or her order to arrive?
TT: We are still figuring our strategy out. We have not taken longer than 30 minutes for an order and anticipate that we can do it in 20 depending on the order. Taco Bell can be a little difficult to work with due to the fact that only two people work there from 12:00 pm on.
HC: That’s not too long at all. That’s honestly faster than a lot of other restaurants in Greencastle who deliver, like Monicals or Papa Johns. Are you looking to branch out to other restaurants besides Taco Bell, McDonalds and Buffalo Wild Wings?
TT: It is tough to say that we are going to branch out. We only really see a need for the service within the current hours that we are open. Most of the other restaurants in the Greencastle area close by 10:00pm, and most of our orders come in later than that anyways. As always, we are open to any suggestions!
HC: Maybe they will start staying open later, so they can get your business too! What forms of payment are you taking? Have you thought about using Venmo?
TT: We accept credit and debit cards through our website. We have discussed Venmo, but for right now we are just going to stick to this because it is working.
HC: Are there fees or service charges people should be aware of?
TT: The only set fee is our small delivery fee of $3.99. We do accept tips, but there are no hidden fees that you need to be aware of.
HC: That’s not bad either, especially if you order a lot of food and split it between other people. How can we stay informed of any specials or deals that Tiger Takeout has coming up?
TT: It is important that you keep up with our social media posts because we will be having special deals for free deliveries every now and then. Follow us on Twitter: @dpuTigerTakeout and on Instagram: @TigerTakeoutdpu.
HC: Oh wow, you guys have covered so many mediums that make it easy to keep up with Tiger Takeout! How many drivers or employees do you have? Are you looking to hire in the near future?
TT: Right now there are only three of us including Drew Bailey, Kevin Keene and Ian Good, but once we start making enough money to pay employees we will be opening up jobs for other DePauw students.
HC: That’ll be a job I’m sure many students would be interested in; anything involving food is always a good idea! Do you have plans to carry it on even after you both graduate in the next few years?
TT: Ian will graduate this year, but Drew plans to carry out the business next year. We plan to make this business sustainable so that we can pass it on throughout the years.
HC: Well, best of luck to you two as you continue growing and starting your own business! I’m confident I will be a customer in the near future along with many other students from DePauw! Her Campus can’t wait to watch it take off!
