Greek life has always been an integral part of Dickinson College, and there are countless reasons to join a community of people with whom you feel like you belong. Dickinson has a long history involving Greek life and, although the organizations aren’t as abundant as before, the chapters that are here make a lasting and profound impact on the campus and its students. Whether it’s nurturing alumni relations, generating fundraising and scholarships, or even promoting school spirit, Greek life does so many things for our campus that you might not even be aware of.
Like in all the previous years, there will undoubtedly be a plethora of first-years excited to explore the world of “frats” and “srats,” and eager to meet new friends and future sisters or brothers. With your first year of college being so new and overwhelming, Greek life can be an amazing place to turn to for a solid support system for many students.
If you’re unsure whether or not you want to be a part of such a community, the best way to find out is to be introduced to all different types of sorority members at Panhellenic Council’s annual ice cream social on Sunday, November 6th in the HUB Social Hall from 1:00pm to 3:00pm. There, you can talk to sisters from all of Dickinson’s sororities, ask them about their experiences and what their chapter means to them to gauge whether you wish to go through the recruitment process in the spring. Â
That being said, Greek life isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. You shouldn’t by any means feel pressured into joining a sorority or fraternity because there are about a million other ways to meet new people and be just as involved on campus. However, if you’re considering the option of going through sorority recruitment, then the ice cream social is definitely something that you must check out!
