College is stressful. Between going to classes, keeping up with the important people in your life and making sure your grades stay afloat, it’s hard. Although, it isn’t all that college has to offer.Â

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a freshman politician from New York’s 14th district, has become a powerhouse ever since she was elected as the youngest congresswoman in American history. At 29 years old, she is trying her best to make this country better in any way she sees possible, but she knows that being in politics is not the easiest job.Â

As the youngest congresswoman, she’s known for being more social media savvy than other politicians and often uses her accounts to reach out to her followers and give them the inside scoop on life in American politics. Amongst all of that she reminds us of how important self-care is before you burn out. So, I figured I would return the favor.Â

Collegiettes, don’t forget that regardless of all the things going on in your life at school, take a moment for yourself. Even if that means taking a walk while you’re stuck doing work and have little to no focus. Maybe that means calling home to get back that comfort you feel from your family or going out to buy clothes that make you happy. Try anything that prevents stress because stress is just not healthy.Â

We’re all working hard to get that degree that says we’ve made it, but that does not mean that we have to destroy ourselves for it. So, grab a cup of tea and throw on your most comfy sweatshirt as you read this article for a moment and just remember to breathe. Just like AOC is trying to better the country, we can better ourselves with our education. Just don’t forget to take care of yourself first!
