7 Movies Coming Out This Fall

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Drexel chapter.

Movies are the perfect way to break the monotony of school life, and when you don’t have much time, a two-hour movie is an alternative way to get all the stress off your mind. Even if you aren’t much of a moviegoer, here are seven movies to see in theaters this fall in my humble opinion.

1. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

Potterheads, rejoice! The newest magic-themed movie is set to hit cinemas on November 18th. This movie isn’t focused around Hogwarts, but rather is focused around a wizard’s struggle to keep the magical society under wraps in the United States during the early 1800’s. Even if you aren’t a Potterhead, this movie is a must-watch for its beautiful score and amazing computer generated image effects.

2. Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children

This movie is a Tim Burton classic, with its dark fantasy and adventure. It stars many great actors including Samuel Jackson (Nick Fury, anyone?) and Dame Judi Dench. This movie is a story of a boy with peculiar talents trying to save others like him from a threat that is the main reason they exist. It released in theaters on September 30th.

3. Deepwater Horizon

Deepwater Horizon is a biographical movie based on the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oilrig explosion and consequent oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. It is the story of how an oilrig worker, Michael Williams, and his family deal with the repercussions of the disaster both on board the rig and in the country itself. It released in theaters on September 30th and has been given an 83 percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

4. Doctor Strange

If you are a Marvel comics fan, this is the movie for you! Based on the Marvel comics hero Dr. Strange, this movie is part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It tells the story of a neurosurgeon who loses his job but becomes a hero after meeting a magical, mystical being. It comes out on November 4th, and stars Benedict Cumberbatch.

5. Bridget Jones’s Baby

Bridget Jones is back! If you’ve kept up with her over the years then you know that you are in for a comedy treat. Bridget Jones’s Baby continues the story of Bridget Jones and her hilarious mishaps. She deals with pregnancy, motherhood and the search to find the father. It came out on September 16th.

6. Inferno

Action, mystery, adventure – this movie has it all. Based on the book by Dan Brown, this movie follows the ongoing story of Robert Langdon and his fight against the clock to stop a deadly global plot. In this movie, Robert teams up with Dr. Sienna Brooks to stop the world from being infected with a deadly virus. It will be released on October 28th and stars Tom Hanks as Robert Langdon.

7. The Girl on the Train

This movie is the movie to see if you’re looking for a mystery thriller film. It is the story of a divorced woman, played by Emily Blunt, who longs for the love she sees between a couple while riding the train to work every day. However, complications arise when she sees something she should not have seen and the couple goes missing. It is set to release on October 7th.

Whether you’re looking to have a girls’ night or cuddle up in the theater on a date, you should definitely check out one of this season’s upcoming films.
