For the last few years it has been quite obvious how much the music world has changed and advanced. Digital music sales are at a record high, CD’s become more and more obsolete each week, and new artists are struggling to figure out how to stand out with so much noise clogging the internet. In 2007, RecordStoreDay.com launched their campaign to memorialize the dedication that aritsts and independent record store owners put into keeping the culture of music alive. In order to keep physical music relevant, there are special vinyl releases, new titles, and limited editions released every year available only at record stores.Â
This Saturday April 19, Vinyl Revival, an independent record store in Lansdowne, celebrated this campaign by having some of Philly’s premier indie/punk artists perform at an all-day event. Artists on the roster included Aaron Hug, Nina Marie, Ghost Gum, Family Vacation, Tom Curtis Jr, The One2s, Big Tusk, Wild Rompit, and headliners DRGN King. It was an amazing day. Be sure to look out for Record Store Day events next year and start collecting your own vinyls in the meantime!
