Healthy Habits for the New Year

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Drexel chapter.

Happy New Year, Dragons! Here are some tips on how to stay healthy for the new year!

1. Start drinking more water! It’s so easy to do! Get a new water bottle to motivate yourself! I find that when I have a cute water bottle, it’s easier and more fun to drink water.  Try flavoring it with some fruit; you’ll look super fancy. Water helps maintain the balance of body fluids including digestion, absorption, and transportation of nutrients.

2. Eat more fruits and vegetables!Get creative! Try making smoothies or juicing! Look up some recipes on Pinterest; they have awesome ideas. If you don’t have access to a kitchen, try to have a salad at lunch and dinner. The Hans has a great salad bar and the omelet bar is an easy way to get a good source of vegetables. They also always have fresh apples, bananas, and oranges.

3. Exercise!Try that new class you have been wanting to take at the DAC. Zumba is a fun way to get exercise without it feeling like a workout. Try Avery’s class; it will feel like a party and you will burn around 500 calories at the same time! If group exercise isn’t your thing, try going with a friend! You’ll probably end up going to the gym more. If you don’t feel like leaving your room, try an online workout! I like to use online YouTube videos! My favorite is Blogilates, her YouTube channel is filled with amazing Pilates videos!

4. Sleep!Sleeping is essential for your mind and body to work, so make sure you’re getting enough of it. Sleeping can help you improve your grades, your memory, and your creativity.
