Getting to the gym on those rainy, sleepy, stay-in-bed days can be hard. Getting to the gym on a crazy weekday can be hard. Let’s face it—getting to the gym AT ALL can sometimes be a challenge. Here’s a list of simple steps to help get you moving and stay motivated!
1. Listen to upbeat music that you can’t help but move to! Whether it’s your favorite rave hits or forgotten 90’s dance tunes, plug in your headphones and start moving. If you can’t decide what songs to sweat to, music apps often have workout stations to help you build your own gym-playlists. You can check out Her Campus Drexel’s own workout playlist here. There is no easier way to get ready to pump some iron than to pump up the jams!
2. Start your day off with a big glass of water. It’s impossible for your body to fulfill a workout in a powerful and health way without first being hydrated. A glass of water is a healthy alternative to your morning cup of coffee (which actually dehydrates you) and can be just as energizing! However, if you absolutely cannot skip your caffeine fix, try having a glass of water before your coffee.
3. Stop body shaming yourself into going to the gym. Stepping on the scale three times a day can be emotional and misleading—so can drowning yourself in pictures of your favorite VS models (sorry, Cara). Muscle weighs more than fat and a mirror does not have filters or Photoshop. The best thing you can do to get inspired is tell yourself that you are worth it!Â
4. Make it a date!Working out with a friend is always super fun! So, if you’re feeling like you can’t even, let your gym buddy get you in the mood! You won’t want to leave them hanging because let’s face it: no one likes being bailed on when they have plans with someone. Schedule a time to meet up with a friend at the gym. Treat it like a meeting or a date that way you have it blocked off in your schedule and you have an obligation to show up!
5. Set goals and reward yourself. Give yourself some fitness goals but remember to start small! A goal can be anything from hitting the gym three times a week for a month to adding five minutes into your cardio routine. If you hit your goals, treat yourself to some cute new workout clothes, a mani/pedi, or whatever else motivates you to be the best that you can be!
Remember that nothing worth having comes easily, but we hope these tips help get you to your workout on days when you literally can’t even. Think we missed some tips? Let us know on Facebook or Twitter!
