This summer I was working a 9-5 job at the Admissions Office on campus and subsequently had a lot of time on my hands after work. With that time, I began to dive deep into Youtube and one day stumbled across the K-Pop Band, BTS. It only took one video and I was hooked. Fast forward to now and the obsession is still strong, so strong that I have begun to explore the Korean music scene as a whole. All in all, as I have explored the K- R&B genre I have come across some really good music I thought I should share!
Artist: OuiOui
Debuting in 2018, this fairly new indie duo have been number one on my list for a while. Carrying such a chill vibe, every song I have heard from them has been such a mode. A personal favorite of mine is “not too far” but they honestly knock it out the park with every song.
Song: BONGJESEON (feat. SURAN)
As usual, a few days ago I was listening to music before I fall asleep and I stumbled across this song. For some reason, I fell completely in love with it and have legitimately been obsessed with the vocals and unique flow of this song. It has a kind of sad feel to it but in a really beautiful way. Â
Song: U by PrimaryÂ
Being one of the first K-R&B songs I heard, “U” has a special place in my heart. Granted I enjoy the slower pace of the vocals contrasted with the upbeat track, I am naturally biased to the song as my favorite member of BTS, RM, is featured in this song.Â
Song: No Way by LEE HI
Oddly enough before I even heard the track I fell in love with the album cover of this song first. As the song began to play, I was pleasantly surprised and have listed to this song countless times. LEE HI and G.Soul absolutely kill this, creating a harmony that could melt chocolate.
Song: Stay Beautiful by Jimin Park
Being a song that also flaunts really cool album artwork, “Stay Beautiful” is definitely worth a listen. Jimin Park really puts her soul in this with her high notes and catchy chorus. She even goes a step further and addresses the importance of self-esteem in men.
