In the Bryan Center, across from the Brown Art Gallery, you’ll find a colorful space called the Center for Sexual and Gender Diversity (known as the CSGD, for short). Inside, you’ll find a plethora of friendly faces and tons of comfy spaces. Whether you identify as a member of the LGBTQ+ community, are questioning your gender or sexuality, or are an ally, any and all are welcome here.

Besides being a safe space for the LGBTQ+ community and its allies, the CSGD also offers a variety of programming and events, most notably “Kick Back Fridays.” From 3 to 5 pm every Friday, the CSGD hosts two hours of socializing and activities (with free food, of course). Themes have ranged from karaoke to fantasy to painting, so you’re guaranteed to have a good time every week, or at least find your fit.

There are also a variety of discussion groups that are held regularly at the CSGD: the asexuality discussion group, Fluid (for people who are bi/pan/questioning), Man to Man, Women Loving Women, QPOC (Queer People of Color), and Spectrum (for people who are trans/gender nonconforming) to name a few. A calendar for these discussion groups can be found on the CSGD website and food is, of course (as always), provided.

The CSGD also offers Trans 101 and P.R.I.D.E (Pursuing Respect, Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity) training, both great resources for all Duke students, faculty, and affiliates looking to broaden their perspectives and learn how to best work in the LGBTQ+ community! The CSGD has so much to offer (and not just Love = Love shirts), so stop by next time you’re in the Bryan Center and check them out!
