The Holiday Season seems to get here earlier and earlier every year. Remember when Christmas decorations did not grace the seasonal section of Target pre-Halloween? Well, no longer. But one industry that has always been ahead of the curve when it comes to the holiday is nail polish. Every year, nail polish meccas and indie companies alike release holiday collections around mid-autumn, setting the tone for the winter nail trends in the months to come. These collections often compliment the respective fashion trends and colors of the season, and thus tend to be darker, richer shades. Furthermore, the holiday polish collections are almost always bursting with glitter to coincide with the lights and sparkle of the holidays.
Because the holidays are stressful enough, we’ve lined up some of the best holiday nail trends so you have one less thing to deal with during the most wonderful time of the year:
Red: This one is kind of a given. While red has always been and will always be one of the most classic nail colors for any time of the year, it is especially on trend during the holiday season. You’d be hard-pressed to find a holiday lacquer collection that doesn’t have at least one shade of red (China Glaze’s Joy Collection has FIVE shades of red!).

Gold: Metallics have been big for a while now, and this season is no exception. Gold is particularly on trend this season, which, again, is no surprise, given the gilded nature of the holidays. Gold is unique in the sense that it can appear somewhat neutral on most skin tones without coming off as too boring. Some brands have even released 18K Real Gold topcoats if you find yourself wanting some real bling on your digits.

Jewel Tones: Jewel tones are deeper, darker, richer shades of nail polish. They are present in most winter/holiday collections because they work particularly well with the darker color trends in fashion that appear when the temperature drops. This year, pretty much any color goes when it comes to jewel tones, but some of the most popular in the holiday collections are dark purple, sapphire, dark teal, and “oxblood” (a trendier name for burgundy).
Nars Superstar; Orly Angel Eyes; OPI Casino Royale; China Glaze Merry Berry
Glitter: Sparkle and shine are everywhere during the holiday season, so it only seems fitting that you should be able to sport the same glittery effect on your nails. Every brand has a different take on the glitter trend, so don’t be afraid to mix it up and try out a bunch. Most glitter polishes are best for layering over a crème polish. However, some can be worn alone for extra sparkle (just be aware that removal tends to be much more difficult when worn alone!).
