Here ’s me every year. I go out and buy an entire new wardrobe, complain about how I have no money, and get bored with all the clothes after a few weeks. Recently, I’ve started Pinteresting religiously and have found some really great ideas for way to give my shorts some extra character without breaking the bank.
The best inspiration I’ve found thus far is this picture. If you’re the least bit good with the sewing machine, this should take no time at all and is a great way to hang on to your favorite shorts that may be just a little too short or a little too worn at the hem. It can completely soften up your look and the lace acts as a really good interest piece.
If that is a little too girly for you, you can use artsy fabrics to make a little bit more of a free-spirited statement. With these, I think the more colorful you go, the better it looks and the more attention you’ll grab. This is also a great fix if you’re one of those people who always ends up with stains on your clothes. If you don’t have cool fabric lying around, you can always find great pieces for good prices at a thrift shop, a vintage store, or in the scrap box at a craft store.
Lastly, if you’ve got some old white denim shorts, you can buy Rit dye and tie-dye them to the best of your ability. The ones in this picture are pretty cute and can easily be replicated by dipping the top third in one color, the bottom third in another color, and leaving the middle white. With these, you have to be careful to let the colors dry before you try to move them so that you don’t have running and mixing.
All three of the ideas are so simple and so cute! With a little bit of craftiness and some patience, you can upcycle your shorts amd have some new staple pieces for the summer. Happy crafting!
