DIY Projects I

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Duke chapter.

After a long break at home for the holidays, I must admit that walking back into my room on campus was a bit depressing. Gone were the perfectly selected decorations and personal touches from my room at home. Instead, I was faced with white walls and a few posters. I never really decorated my room because I would only be living there for a year, and I didn’t see much sense in putting so much time and effort into decorating a temporary space. But, I decided to make my living space a home, and I’ll be sharing my inspirations with Her Campus readers.

Crayon Wall Art

  • Buy a box of 64 crayons. You may want to buy two boxes so you can double up on the “good colors.”
  • Glue the crayons tip down onto a plain white canvas. Elmer’s glue may work, but hot glue seems to be the best option.
  • After the crayons are secure, turn your hair dryer to hot and high. Let the wax run as far as you want. It will dry fairly quickly once you remove the heat.
  • Voila! Instant artwork that will have all of your visitors raving!

Stay tuned for more do it yourself projects! Please comment with your own inspirations. I saw this work of art in Betsy Klein’s apartment, and she says she got her inspiration from Kate Wheelock. I thought I’d pass this along to Her Campus, and I can’t wait to try it myself!
