Half way through the semester comes a time for ultimate relaxation and some invigorating enjoyment. Leaving your last class for the day, eating your last meal on campus, saying your last departing words to your roommate… moments like these eventually accumulate into one looming nostalgic feeling. We tend to take such anticipation and conjure heaps of ideas for the all-extensive weekend: staying back to wander around campus, visiting an old-time friend at her college campus, taking a road-trip to explore the outdoors, or the most popular journey back home to spend time with the people you love.
While going home usually entails looking forward to sleeping in your own bed, eating a home-cooked meal, and showering with no shoes on, for me it means so much more. My hometown, sunny Miami, Florida, is in itself an ideal vacation hotspot. The minute I arrive, I immediately turn to my usual routine; every day, I wake up, throw on a bathing suit, and get ready to bask in the sun. The first day, my brother and I decide to go wakeboarding, which as it turns out, tones your abs, legs and back, and gives you a killer tan! The next day, my family takes me on a thrilling boat ride to eat at a restaurant on the water, which just so happens to have the best wings in town! On day three, my options only get better; my uncle offers to entertain me with his jetskii, which actually gives your hair an ‘au-naturel’ blow-dried look! And on day four, my final day, I turn to the beach that is so conveniently located in my backyard, and spend the day there with my best friend swimming, tanning, roller-blading, and much more!
Therefore, Miami is the ultimate destination and only a 2-hour plane ride from RDU! So next time a long weekend or academic break comes around, you should definitely consider flying down there and taking advantage of the city’s endless opportunities! That’s essentially how you ‘fall break’!
