It’s a new year, so what does that mean? A new start, new classes, new fashions, and (of course) new movies! This year will be a year of mega-blockbusters. Entertainment Weekly recently asked its online viewers which movies they were most excited about seeing in 2012, and Her Campus Duke thinks you’ll be excited too! Here are the top 5 contenders from the poll on EW.com:

5. The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn—Part 2(November 16)

5% of voters deemed the final installment of the Twilight Saga their most anticipated film of 2012. Breaking Dawn—Part 1 was released in late 2011 and has earned just over $650 million in box office sales to date. Twilight fans will love the film adaptation of Stephenie Meyer’s successful book series, and producers will undoubtedly make sure that the film lives up to expectations.

4. The Avengers(May 4)

8% of voters can’t wait to see Marvel’s mashup of iconic superheroes: Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Thor, Captain America, Hawkeye, and Black Widow. Think of The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, just with Marvel’s alleged $260 million budget. Viewers also get to see super-hunks Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Chris Evans (Captain America), and Robert Downey, Jr (Iron Man), all on the same big screen.

Feast your eyes, America.

3. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey(December 14)

10% of EW.com voters are anxiously awaiting The Hobbit. This movie, based off J. R. R. Tolkien’s novel, is the prequel to the Lord of the Rings Trilogy. The LOTR movies raked in nearly $3 billion in box office sales. This film adaptation of The Hobbit will be released 75 years after the book’s first publication, so you can expect fans to go out in droves to see this long-awaited film.

2. The Dark Knight Rises(July 20)

This film won 27% of the votes for the most exciting movie of 2012, and it’s easy to see why. We last saw Batman in The Dark Knight, taking the blame for murders he didn’t commit, sentencing himself to a life of a pariah. Details of the movie have been hush-hush so far, but we do know that Bane and Catwoman will be joining Bruce Wayne in what should be one of the biggest movie events of the year.

1. The Hunger Games(March 23)

While the other top movies of 2012 are the final pieces of sagas or trilogies, The Hunger Games is the beginning of a whole new era. 38% of those polled voted The Hunger Games as the most exciting movie of 2012, and with good reason. If you haven’t read the books yet, DO IT NOW. Here’s just a preview of what the trilogy has in store: “In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the other districts in line by forcing them to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight-to-the-death on live TV.” Add in a love triangle that could put Twi-hards to shame, and you’ve got the number one movie of the year.

In her spare time, Sabrina vegges out to various fashion blogs, mindless TV (Pretty Little Liars anyone?) and online shopping (which borders on an addiction). If you manage to catch her in an energetic mood, she's probably on her way to cardiodance (or to the nearest mall).
