Things to Do with Extra Food Points

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Duke chapter.

1,175.12 and Counting…
If you are like me, and somehow seem to have an overwhelming excess of food points this far in the semester, you may be looking for ways to spend some big bucks in the next couple of weeks.  You are probably thinking, this is every girl’s dream- who could possibly complain about having some extra dollars to spend?  Well, let me tell you, this is far from my dream (its almost as bad as not having enough Food points…).  Though I surely appreciate the extra cash, I now feel that I have the burden of spending every last cent, so as to not waste the Food points my parents have graciously given me. Here’s my new plan for gobbling up (literally) my Food points, and for those of you who are excited (and mildly intimidated) by your outstanding points, I hope I can help you spend them as well!

1. Any and all meals at the Waduke, every chance that I get
Never did I think I would see that day when I would be “forced” to eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner at the Wa (I hear brunch is fantastic as well…).  I am definitely taking advantage of this opportunity; I doubt I will ever get this chance again.

2.  Stocking up on my favorite snacks for LDOC
Last day of classes is near!  Probably the single best day of the year would not be complete without copious amounts of our favorite Duke grub.  Time to hit up the Lobby Shop and stock up on some bin candy, ice cream, and chips and salsa (swimsuit season, anyone?).  If you find yourself hungry at any point between the musical sensations of Bass Hunter and B.O.B., you know where to go, my room is going to be stocked!

3.  Plate & Pitchfork
Mmm…mmm…mmmmmm… Similar to the atmosphere at the Waduke, Plate & Pitchfork is a wonderful way to spend Food points on campus.  I dined at the restaurant for my first time a few weeks ago, and it was delicious!

4. Enzos, all the way!
Good-bye to Papa John’s and Dominos.  Sorry to all you cheesy bread lovers out there, but these chains really can’t compete with the culinary miracle that is Enzo’s bruschetta pizza. Late-night munchies just got a whole lot classier (and more expensive, which in desperate times like these, is a good thing).

5. FroYo
Alpine atrium. Everyday. 5:00.  Do they charge more for toppings?

6. Stock up on beverages
It’s getting hot out (well, hotter at least, this NC weather has been kickin’ since February). Drinking water is a must.  No more running to the grocery store for water bottles.  I’ll be using Bella to stock my fridge from now on.  Anyone know where they sell Fiji Water on campus? I don’t think those $3.00 bottles of Smart Water will make the cut…

7. Treating my brother’s friends to dinner
(Cool?) older sister with the big bucks takes freshmen boys out to dinner (see #1, the Waduke). Major brownie points, yes?  Not to mention it will totally elevate my “playa status” (yeah, right…).  Never again will I have to scramble to find a last-minute date for a formal…we can only hope.

8. Cookies at Von Der Heyden

Somehow, I have resisted getting a cookie at Von der Hayden this entire year.  I have lined up countless times, ordering the usual green tea or Diet Pepsi and the occasional veggie wrap.  Every single time that I have done so, I have looked at those cookies, longing to taste their deliciousness.  Well, my time to shine has finally come- it’s finals season (which means calories don’t count) and the only thing that is going to get me through long hours of studying social psychology is those cookies.  Food points to the rescue!
