We all know that feeling of wanting to curl up in a ball with a print of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream and a Nicholas Sparks movie when it’s that time of the month. While this may seem like the only option to survive Aunt Flo, you’ll probably just end up feeling more bloated than you were in the first place. The following 5 tips should help you to look after yourself during your period.

Drink Water

It feels like everyone is constantly telling us to drink more but really try to make a point of it during your period. Staying hydrated will keep you feeling refreshed, your skin glowing and maybe also help in fighting off those pesky cramps.

Buddha Bowls

While I think that it can be agreed that we would all rather be inhaling bars of Cadbury, giving into this craving usually ends up leaving you with more of a stomach ache than before. Instead, try eating clean foods like Buddha bowls. These colourful bowls of whole grains, plant proteins and vegetables are a great option to nourish your body with fresh, whole foods, plus pretty and easy to make! Yoga

Although many shy away from exercising on their period, engaging in some light movement can actually help alleviate annoying period symptoms like cramps. Try doing a yoga practice for women on their periods and trust me, the stretching and breathing will not only help your achey body but also put you in more of a positive mindset. Care for your skin

As you’ve probably experienced, your period can really cause your skin to go crazy. Use this as an excuse to take some time to test out that skin care regimen that you’ve been meaning to do. Apply a nice body lotion or use a face mask to get your skin feeling fresh and glowy. Try this Kiehl’s deep pore cleansing face mask.

Time for yourself

We tend to rush around from one thing to another, forgetting to take time to think about our own wellbeing. Use your period as an excuse to slow down and get back in tune with yourself. Take a long bath, cuddle up with a good book or go for a walk. It’s time to let your work rest and make what’s good for your soul a priority.
