Campus Cutie Awards

Here at Her Campus Durham we think ourselves lucky for the fantastic variety and quality of Campus Cuties that we are privileged enough to interview every single week. So we thought we would say a little ‘thank you’ to those Cuties who let us investigative reporters rummage through the depths of their personal lives by entering them into the Durham Campus Cutie Awards.

And – drum roll please – the results are …

1. Cheekiest Not-So-Subtle Bum Grab Award

Jack Moreton

I commend your bold moves, sir.

2. Biggest ‘Wow, That Escalated Quickly’ Answer

Harry Adair:

“If you had to grab a girl’s attention in a lecture how would you go about it?

Paper aeroplane and/ or strip tease.”

Hmm… I suppose there is an argument that a paper aeroplane could go unnoticed. Yeah, better go for the strip tease.

3. Biggest Ego

Mackenzie Young:

“First thing you notice about a girl.

My own gorgeous reflection in their eyes.”

“You’re on a desert island and you can only have three things, what would they be?

A mirror, hair gel and…my ego.*”

“Favourite thing about Durham?

 Me.”

“What don’t you understand about girls?

Why don’t I get more swooning crowds of them following me around.*”

Yeah, this one is pretty self explanatory. 

4. Most Obscure “Celebrity” Choice Award

Charlie Smith:

“If you could live an existing celebrity’s life for one day, who would you choose and why?

I’d have to choose Elon Musk.

Who is he?

He started life as a hippie, but decided he wasn’t helping the world enough so made a few major life decisions/changes and is now the Chairman of the world’s largest solar panel company, and CEO of both Tesla Motors and Space X – a private space exploration organisation.”

He sounds as hipster as your answer Charlie, but I applaud your originality. 

5.  WORST (although inventive) CHAT UP LINE EVER Award

Ope Paul-Lawal:

“Best pick-up line?

I’ve got a list of them on my phone actually (proceeds to take out phone). Ah, got it: My love for you is like diarrhoea, I just can’t hold it in.”

OH PLEASE, JUST NO!

6. Most Ambitious

Simon Lynch:

“Next steps after uni?

World domination.”

You heard it here first.

7. Best Unexplained Statement

James Peck:

“If you were an animal, what would you be?


A hedgehog. Because…erm…there’s that thing about foxes and hedgehogs…”

Ah, yes of course, silly me.

And finally, the most coveted award…

8. Most Romantic Campus Cutie

Connor Haynes:

“Most romantic thing you’ve ever done for a girl?

I knew there was a big meteor shower, so I rang up this girl and told her to dress warmly, picked her up with a sleeping bag and pillows, drove out of town and watched the shooting stars.”

Ooh, you charmer, you. I’m blushing and I wasn’t even there.
