The word on many Durham students’ lips for the past week has been ‘Filthy’ – whether it be in eager anticipation of the event, or fierce opposition to the ethics surrounding the controversial night.Ā Promotion for the event advertised a raucous night of scantily-clad students (urging female invitees to think “Burlesque, Moulin Rouge, Ann Summers and Playboy Bunnies”).However, this evening, only hours before near-naked students were unleashed on one another, Monk’s event at Loveshack was cancelled.An inside source claimed that the event’s cancellation came as a result of a leakage to the press. Apparently, subsequent exposure in the national news put pressure on Loveshack, who had their license threatened. According to our source, Loveshack proceeded to pull Monk’s event.Monk have since issued an apology and offer guests a full refund.
