Happy New Year to you dear reader; today it’s a different page, a new chapter or however you want to call it. 2017 promises to be the year you’ll actually travel the world or join the gym or even find the love of your life. Well, that’s what everyone wishes, and resolutions are all about stopping doing things such as smoking. It really means becoming “the new me” overnight.
This year I’ve decided not to do one, or even think about it. A new year doesn’t really mean anything to be fair. It’s more symbolic like many things we are pushed to do within a society. A new year doesn’t mean you’ll erase all your past, forget about it and become superman/woman after the firework display. This year instead of wasting paper on a list of things I probably won’t do, I want to re-think what I’ve done in the past year, learn from all those bits and pieces where I messed up and gradually, with the knowledge of those acts, try to improve. It’s absolutely pointless having a list of things you want to do, but knowing that everyday you have the chance to improve yourself in anyway you want, that’s the goal I want to accomplish.
I don’t think I’ve ever met anyone that actually accomplishes any of their New Year promises, but I do believe we improve ourselves when we want to and when we actually put our minds and hearts into it. If you missed making a resolution, don’t wait for another year of mediocrity to go by. Start chasing all those dreams you have, today. Stop thinking about the new me or a new chapter, learn from the past and everyday is a new year. There’s no need for resolutions and silly lists; just join the gym, get those grades up and book the holiday of your lifetime today.
